The #SheSaid drive, part of the Wiki Loves Women initiative, celebrates women leaders by focusing on enhancing their visibility through the creation and improvement of Wikiquote entries related to them.

Since its launch in October 2020, the #SheSaid campaign on Wikiquote has achieved remarkable success. By January 5th, 2021, it had contributed to a total of 867 new or enhanced articles across seven languages, predominantly consisting of new entries.

Building upon this success, In 2021, the second edition of the campaign proved to be equally triumphant, resulting in the creation of 1500+ Wikiquote entries across nine languages, with numerous entries also receiving improvements.

Italian and Tagalog emerged as the most active languages during this edition, further contributing to the mission of showcasing women's voices.

    Challenges Faced

    • Late Grant Reviews: The timely execution of the SheSaid campaign faced a challenge due to delayed grant reviews from the Wikimedia Foundation Grants team. The resulting delays impacted the planning and execution phases, requiring adaptability to unforeseen timelines.
    • Dependence on Training Sessions: A notable challenge arose from a prevalent inclination among a substantial number of participants and organizers to await scheduled training sessions rather than proactively engaging with available resources. This tendency led to underutilization of campaign materials and delayed individual contributions.
    • Language Coverage Limitations: The comprehensive coverage of training across all languages proved challenging, highlighting a limitation in resources. Not being able to cater to training needs in every language represented a constraint in achieving universal accessibility.
    • Participating Languages in Incubation: Some participating languages were still in incubator phases, posing a challenge in terms of resource allocation and support. The developmental status of these languages added complexity to ensuring consistent participation.
    • Tracking Results and Hashtag Usage: Efficiently tracking the campaign's results encountered difficulties as not all participants consistently included the designated hashtag, #SheSaid, in their editing summaries. This posed a challenge in accurately assessing the impact and reach of individual contributions. This is a recurring issue year after year, though we improved the process over time

    Solutions Implemented:

    • Collaboration with the WMF Grants team and help giving feedback to fast the process
    • More training sessions were hosted than initially planned

    Successful Strategies

    • Collaborate with the admins of Wikiquote to train the participants.
    • Presentation of the campaign during conferences was helpful to raise awareness about the campaign.
