The WISCom Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of the Wiki Indaba Steering Committee (WISCom). This role involves supporting WISCom in its mandate to oversee the affairs of Wikimedia Affiliates in Africa, ensuring alignment with the movement strategy, and providing administrative support to facilitate the smooth operation of the committee.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordination of WISCom Activities:

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day activities of WISCom.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among WISCom members and African Wikimedia Affiliates.
  • Report to WIScom on the progress towards the WISCom Charter and African Agenda
  • Be the point person in organising Afrika Baraza
  • Coordinate the process to selecting the new host country for WikiIndaba conference.

Administrative Support:

  • Schedule and organise WISCom meetings, including preparing agendas and taking detailed minutes.
  • Maintain comprehensive and organised records of all WISCom activities, decisions, and documents.

Document Review and Alignment:

  • Review and ensure that WISCom documents and activities are aligned with the Wikimedia movement strategy.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements and adjustments to ensure compliance and alignment.

Grant Application and Management:

  • Prepare and submit grant applications on behalf of WISCom.
  • Manage and report on the use of grant funds, ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as a point of contact for WISCom stakeholders, including Wikimedia Affiliates in Africa, the Wikimedia Foundation, and other partners.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between WISCom and its stakeholders.

Event Coordination:

  • Assist in planning and organising Wiki Indaba and other related events.
  • Coordinate logistics, participant communication, and event documentation.
  • Codify best practices for hosting events and share WikiIndaba conference organising handbook with next host country.

Project Management:

  • Develop and manage project plans for WISCom initiatives.
  • Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and report on outcomes.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other administrative and coordination tasks as required to support the effective functioning of WISCom.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Communications, or a related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years of experience in project coordination, administrative support, or a related role, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience with grant writing and management is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Wikimedia movement and its values is an advantage.
  • Experience working in an NGO or the Wikimedia movement is an added advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Able to speak French, English and Arabic is an added advantage
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using office software (e.g., MS Office, Google Workspace) and project management tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
