Site Restitutio Benjamin Fondane

Bonjour,

I removed these links because it seems you are inappropriately promoting it. You can suggest links for inclusion on the discussion page of any article. If the authors of that article believe the link would enhance the article, they will add it.

According to User:COIBot/XWiki/fondane.eu, you have been adding links on every language edition possible without regard for whether doing so makes the article better. The site appears to have no content. So, I cannot see how adding the link helps any of these articles. Even if the site did have content, it would probably only make sense to add the link in French Wikipedia (and possibly some related languages). Instead, you are simply adding a link to your own site which doesn't help our articles. That is not what Wikipedia is for - you should stop. Instead, you're welcome to suggest including the link on the talk page of any article - if other authors agree they will add it. Thanks  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 13:39, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Traduction

Elfix, thank you so much for helping me with this. Your comments are 100% correct.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 15:43, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Bonjour,

Amicalement, Luiza Palanciuc & Mihai Sora

I can understand you perfectly. What you fail to realize is that linking to this domain does not enhance the content of the articles. Furthermore, you've promoted it inappropriately on our wikis, which is considered disruptive. As such, the domain has been blacklisted & blocks placed.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 21:39, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your help with that vandal at pt.wikibooks. - Jorge Morais 02:16, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Not a problem at all. When online, it is often helpful for sysops of smaller wikis to join #wikimedia-admin to better coordinate such efforts. Any sysops from ptwikibooks who wish to idle in that channel can certainly ask me for access. See IRC/wikimedia-admin for more information.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:44, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

RfC...

I'm trying to learn the Xwiki spam business, and in particular I find inappropriate linkpushing of valid links difficult to deal with. I gathered some link-/ip summaries here User:Finnrind/tatry (for lack of a better place, I'm not proposing to add this to BL), and would appreciate your comment on it at your convenience. It's not an urgent matter. (crossposting at A.B. and Mike.L, anyone else who gets curious feel free to comment too...) Regards, Finn Rindahl 13:15, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Like to get involved with COIbot and spam reports

Hi there. I'd love to start helping with anti-spam work and COIbot, however, I don't know where to begin. Could you help me by chance? Cheers, Razorflame 19:04, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Please start with User:Mike.lifeguard/Screencasts  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 19:11, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Will do as soon as I get home. :). Cheers, Razorflame 19:23, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
Apart from that you get to hear Mike saying "errr" 349 times it's actually quite useful :) Finn Rindahl 19:28, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Wikispecies

I have no problem using your tools to help out with vandalism, so to help you out with the "adjustment", I've made you a sysop there. (Of course if you don't really want to be one, you can still do admin stuff without being a permanent one ;-) ) Consider this half-April Foolery (the opportunity just presented itself...) and half-seriousness (there's really no problem in blocking/reverting/deleting vandals when no local sysop is there). Maxim(talk) 19:21, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

OK, thank you. Can I suggest that any wikispecies admins may wish to join #wikimedia-admin so they are reachable in such circumstances? I hesitated only because in the past some on Wikispecies have been less than thrilled when stewards have placed blocks etc - thank you for clarifying that for me.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 19:58, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Speaking as the resident vandal whacker (not on behalf of all sysops), I have no problem with stewards helping. I seem to be the only regular admin who uses IRC (OhanaUnited uses it rarely), but I don't monitor WikiSpecies regularly (I check a few times a day for speedies/unreverted vandalism), and I'm not really in IRC all that much (or editing at all, actually), but I have posted a note suggesting joining that channel. Maxim(talk) 20:02, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
You are no different from other stewards and I don't want to see any preferential treatments. Mike, please remove your sysop flag from Wikispecies to stop further drama. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:03, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
I wasn't aware there was any drama. Nevertheless, I don't need it, so I'll of course remove myself from the user group. Clarification of the Wikispecies community's attitude regarding stewards blocking vandals would be welcome - as a group we've had less than stellar experiences when trying to help.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:15, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Our policy is that if stewards want local rights, they should request it formally at Requests for adminship / bureaucratship. Maxim, if you're reading this, you asked User:DerHexer not to do the same thing[1], how ironic. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:25, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Perhaps he changed his stance on the idea since last June? Majorly talk 03:30, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Somewhat unsurprisingly, that's exactly what happened. MelosMaxim's (:p Maxim(talk) 13:40, 29 March 2009 (UTC)) exact words were "I threatened to block DerHexer but then I saw reason"  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:38, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Heh, yes. It was late when I wrote that :D  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 22:08, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Trouble

Hello Mike, I have a problem. Since yesterday all my javascript stopped working. It was SBHandler and removespam.js. Is something wrong?. I saw you deleted the removespam.js page so I'd like to ask you if I can copy the content in a subpage or something. Many thanks in advance. I was listening to the screencasts you did and I've found them quite useful, thanks . —Dferg (talk) 18:20, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Forgot all, seems to have been all resolved (something in MediaWiki could be...). Thanks anyway and sorry to bug you :( —Dferg (talk) 19:01, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I moved some scripts around to match what's in SVN. All that's needed is browser cache to be cleared.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 22:07, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Done, SBHandler and other scripts working again :D. Thanks again. —Dferg (talk) 09:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

SWMT

I have recently joined the SWMT and I was wondering how long I should wait before moving my name from "New members" to "Active members". GT5162 16:45, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Hi, I'm quite surprised that you deleted said article without any communication with local admin (I'm the one). Would you please provide me with appropriate explanation(s)? --pavlosh 22:39, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
The page was created with {{delete}} in it already. If doing so was incorrect, you might want to double-check the other deletions I made that day.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 23:02, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for reply. Yes, there was a specific (even strange) story with that article. The very essence of my question was: why any deletion activity before you communicated with local admin? Same thing on uk:Wikiquote project - your deletion activity prior to any communication with local admin. --pavlosh 23:23, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
At the time, it looked like you were not active. I'll make a note that there is someone taking care of these wikis.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 23:41, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
I will appreciate that. --pavlosh 23:47, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Hugo.arg@gnwiki

I was doing some SWMT patrolling and I found that this user, who is an administrator on gnwiki, is creating articles with very little context and then reverting my edits without an explanation when I add a {{delete}} template to him. Please could you look at my SRSD request here. Thanks.

DPL on nl.wikipedia

Hello, I've noticie that you changed the status of this bugreport to FIXED. At first this made me very happy, because I am waiting for this to be fixed for years. However, it seems that it is incorrect, as far as I can see, because it is in fact not installed on nl.wikipedia. You can see on this testpage of mine that it is not working: nl:Gebruiker:Magalhães/DynamicPageList). Can you please revert your edit? Magalhães 09:34, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Sorry, I was wrong. I guess I was looking at a different nl project. I've reopened the bug.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 15:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Cross-wiki vandal

Greetings! Regarding this one, you may wish to block the equivalent range at 66.99.0.0/22 (it's actually 64.107.0.0/22 -- I've never seen him at the /21 or /20). Both are the Chicago Public library and it's one of his most frequent haunts; I hard-blocked it on en: recently. All those vandals on Jimbo's page, Juliancolton's, and yours are the same person, and if they're not in Chicago they are open proxies. Thanks for your help with this pest; the global blocks are helping. Cheers, Antandrus 02:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks - I've done a 1-month block for both ranges - hopefully won't be too much collateral (& if enwiki has hardblocked, probably worth any hassle)  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 14:48, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
