Letter petitioning WMF to reverse recent decitions

edit

The Wikimedia Foundation recently created a new feature, "superprotect" status. The purpose is to prevent pages from being edited by elected administrators -- but permitting WMF staff to edit them. It has been put to use in only one case: to protect the deployment of the Media Viewer software on German Wikipedia, in defiance of a clear decision of that community to disable the feature by default, unless users decide to enable it.

If you oppose these actions, please add your name to this letter. If you know non-Wikimedians who support our vision for the free sharing of knowledge, and would like to add their names to the list, please ask them to sign an identical version of the letter on change.org.

I'm notifying you because you participated in one of several relevant discussions. -Pete F (talk) 22:06, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Other's user pages

edit

There is a restriction on editing other users' user pages. If you wish a change, try leaving a message on the user's talk page.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:39, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

If a file has been renamed on Commons, and I am simply replacing the file name and making no other changes to their user page, I don't consider that to be in bad faith or that it should be considered a violation of the editing restriction. I'm not changing anything of theirs, and replacing redirects is part of the maintenance process for renamed files. If someone did so on one of my user pages, I would consider it a favour. But if it bothers you so much, I will not do so in the future. Fry1989 (talk) 16:05, 9 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I was informing you of the situation, and a solution, not editorialising, nor judging. Vandalism at meta has forced this restriction.  — billinghurst sDrewth 09:24, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
And I will respect that in the future. Thank you. Fry1989 (talk) 15:33, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Nothing has changed. [1]  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:51, 14 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
Pardon? I have indeed avoided manually editing personal pages since this discussion. Those that may have been edited by GlobalReplace are outside of my control and that is a tool accessible and regularly used by many users on Commons. Fry1989 (talk) 00:00, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

My IP address is blocked cause I was uploading unsourced road signs

edit

Hey Fry. Sorry about the hassle but my IP address "71.184.133.111" is blocked by Elcobbola cause I was block evading too much. You need to understand that despite this site is a encyclopedia, you can tell your so-called "friend" Elcobbola that I proclaim that I will not upload stupid unsourced road signs (whether it's by country or not)! Please understand about this? OK? Good. Jorco123 (talk) 23:06, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
