Wikimania edit

Are you allowed to nominate a place for Wikimania, even if you have never been there?--Lucky102 (talk) 16:06, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Not really. Each bid needs a large team of local people who are willing to work on organising the conference if they win the bid so the nominations are generally made by people living there. Angela (talk) 16:22, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok, but the nominator could tell everyone else that lived there to do it, because I would like to nominate something.--Lucky102 (talk) 19:32, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Please answer, I want to nominate some place(haven't decided yet!).
Sorry but that's not how it works. The local team need to nominate their own location. Angela (talk) 05:29, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Can I suggest to someone that lives there though to nominate it. Can I nominate it if it's a city in my country, but I don't live there. Please answer soon.--Lucky102 (talk) 08:19, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
There wouldn't be a point to do this since it requires a local team ready to make a bid. Angela (talk) 11:55, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply
That's a shame, I wanted to nominate Dublin, but since I don't live there, I can't. I do live in Ireland though.--Lucky102 (talk) 17:00, 29 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

BBC + Wiki edit

Hello Angela!

I have just read about your meeting with the BBC in 2004 as they were inquiring to use wikis. My name is Sophie, I work for Wikimedia Sweden, and I have just been contacted by SVT, the Swedish broadcasting company and they would like to know more about BBCs idea. What did happen? Did they use wikis? I would be very grateful to hear more about this as SVT are rather interested to utilise wikis. I would be grateful if you would either reply here or send me an email. Thank you! --Sophie Österberg (WMSE) (talk) 09:03, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sophie. I moved to Australia in 2005 so I didn't follow what happened with the BBC after I left. I know that they used internal wikis a lot but I'm not aware of whether they ever had a public-facing wiki. I'd recommend that you get in touch with someone at Wikimedia UK for more up-to-date information. Contact details are here. Angela (talk) 09:32, 27 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hi Angela! Thanks for your quick reply, and sorry for my slow response! I'll get in touch with WMUK, thank you! --Sophie Österberg (WMSE) (talk) 12:23, 5 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Creating a new wiki edit

Hi Angela, I wanted to make a specialised kids wiki for Primary School aged children and simplify all major English articles for it. How do I make the wiki?

Hi. There is a page for Proposals for new projects. Are you aware there is already a Simple English Wikipedia? Angela (talk) 09:28, 8 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Request for Creation of Ga Wikipedia edit

Hello @Angela: can you please assist in the creation of the Ga Wikipedia? The Ga Language is an indigenous language from Ghana and has over 750,000 speakers in the country. It will be great for you to support this creation. --Flixtey (talk) 18:00, 13 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
