New red link edit

Dear FPutz,

You have changed a link target from Public_policy/Resources to Public_policy/Resource Center, but the later one does not exist. Is this expected? Should we move the target page to that new title? --Pols12 (talk) 13:16, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, thank you so much for your help monitoring and improving this page. I don't know what I'm doing, please send help. I wanted to change the tab titled "Resources" to "Resource Center". A colleague showed me how to edit templates a few months ago, so I thought I'd be able to...but then it ended up in this lovely red link and took me to a draft page and I was very confused and did not have time to watch a video or read instructions in order to fix it. I would be very grateful if you could explain to me why that edit didn't work, and how to do it correctly in the future? Thank you so much! FPutz (WMF) (talk) 13:34, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, I don't think I answered your question: You are correct, the later one does not exist. This page will also never exist. Instead, the goal is merely to re-name the existing page "resources" to "resource center". FPutz (WMF) (talk) 13:35, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
The code starts with {{Start tab, so you will find the doc at Template:Start tab. A template have parameters which take some values: |param name = param value.
In your first edit, you edited tab-4 parameter, which actually changed the link label, what you expected.
In your second edit, you edited link-4 parameter, which actually changed the link target, what you did not expect.
To fix that, you can:
Please note, currently, changes are not visible on pages which transclude this header template, since the changes have not been validated (“marked for translation”) by a translation admin. I can do it once the issue we have been discussing has been fixed.

Thank you so much! I think I reverted my last edit? FPutz (WMF) (talk) 11:37, 16 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
That’s fine, I have marked the last version for translation. 🙂 -- Pols12 (talk) 17:05, 18 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Return to "Public policy/header" page.
