Eligibility edit

Is this event eligible for Bengali Wikipedia? Che12Guevara (talk) 20:50, 1 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Che12Guevara: Certainly, it is eligible for all languages. Just make sure to follow the sub-contest rules there. And if there is a particular Asian artwork type or genre or period of history that you are interested in, I'll be glad to help research images and publications from Met resources to help fill it out.--Pharos (talk) 15:01, 2 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Mamuli edit

I wanted to use this MET image of a mamuli in Wikipedia, but it is not listed as public domain (it is a 19th-century object, should be in the public domain already). I cannot find the image in the Indonesian art in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's commons category How do I use the image for Wikipedia? Can you help me upload the image to Wikimedia Commons? or should I download and upload it manually?--Rochelimit (talk) 05:57, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Rochelimit: The MET has released under CC0 all of the images they are certain are of public domain artworks, or as they were best able to judge when making this assessment. Unfortunately, "19th-century" is a broad time period, and there are some works from the later part of that century that could theoretically still be copyrighted, and so they have not released images of artworks that have only that information in the data field. Some of these should probably be relabeled, but that would require work with the museum's lawyers, and that would be a task for the future. However, if you are interested in Indonesian jewelry under CC0, I can share with you a number of other examples. There are also some good opportunities for Indonesian textiles, ceremonial axes, and sculptures.--Pharos (talk) 17:15, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Pharos:Yes 19th-century is broad, but the year 1899 is definitely more than 100 years ago, which is a CC0. That particular object has been featured in many books, and repeatedly indicated as old historic objects of at least more than a century old. Is it possible if I download and upload to Wikipedia manually that mamuli object?--Rochelimit (talk) 20:44, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Pharos: I don't think it's possible to do so on Commons until we get approval to change licensing at Met collections site. Which I will try for, but it is difficult, since it might involve both a legal and art-historical determination (i.e. when in the 19th century?). Here are some other Indnoesian works that you can use: Ceremonial Object in the Shape of an Ax, Posthumous Portrait of a Queen as Parvati, and a number of the Indonesian textiles and other works in Oceania: Art of the Pacific Islands in The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I can also help you personally with print sources that are difficult to get online, which I'm glad do with the library.--Pharos (talk) 17:17, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Pharos:Wow thank you very much for the print sources help. I'll ask you, although as of now I have no idea what to ask. BTW I created the Ceremonial Objects in the Shape of an Ax article already and proposed it for the MET (the article is en:Indonesian ceremonial bronze axes
@Rochelimit: Great, I've edited that article a bit now too.--Pharos (talk) 19:24, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Art contest edit

If I create an art article in the certain conditions, I get a postcard. If I expand four articles, I get another postcard. But, about the "world top 3", what do you guys mean? The top three on the number of articles created of any kind, or the top 3 of users in which counts only the art articles? Tuga1143 (talk) 13:59, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Tuga1143: We're going to count everything that can earn a postcard equally, so you get one point for every new art article and 0.25 points for every expanded art article.--Pharos (talk) 17:20, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

English Wikipedia - Indonesian Wikipedia, would they count as 2 new articles? edit

I have a question! I noticed a user translated one of my proposed article (the article is kalabubu) into their own language (Portuguese) and re-proposed it for the MET challenge. My username Rochelimit is for English Wikipedia. I do have a username Rochelimit in the Indonesian Wikipedia because I speak Indonesian. My question is, if I posted duplicates of the original English article PLUS the translated Indonesian article in my list of contributions, would that count as two new articles by me?--Rochelimit (talk) 03:45, 11 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Rochelimit: Yes, you can translate your own articles in multiple languages, and they will count toward the sub-contest.--Pharos (talk) 21:03, 14 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Postcard edit

For creating multiple new articles in different languages, do I get separate postcards? Che12Guevara (talk) 18:34, 15 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

yes Sukuribhu (talk) 05:15, 26 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Grand Prize edit

@Pharos: Is there a limit on the number of the grand prize? If so, how many winners will there be? Theodore Xu (talk) 14:26, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Theodore Xu: The grand prize will be given at least to the top three, and perhaps one or two more..--Pharos (talk) 20:20, 24 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
  CompletedThanks a lot!Theodore Xu (talk) 01:40, 25 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
