Custom icons edit

Hi BFlores (WMF), thanks for the logos. Will there be more support than the guidelines to create custom icons? 10 years ago, there was helpful information about stroke widths etc. If not, ok, just curious if it's worth waiting. Thanks. (please ping me for an answer) --Elya (talk) 20:27, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Elya. Sorry for taking too long to respond. I will take your comment to the Brand Studio and circle back to you once I hear back. Thank you! --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 14:43, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Elya. We have published the guidelines for making your own symbols here. Please check them out. Hope that helps. --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 10:17, 10 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Costs of the logos edit

Hello,

how many had it cost to design the symbols and the style guide. Please tell me a sum of the costs for that.--Hogü-456 (talk) 20:11, 4 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Hogü-456: Hello! There is no cost for folks to utilize these symbols and the style guide. I am not sure of the exact cost to the Foundation of those specific items as they were one part of project work. That project work expense was covered in our budget for Wikipedia 20. This is similar to what we did for Wikipedia 15 and is based on feedback and our experience with previous activities like Wikipedia 10. Simply put, it became more resource management effective for the Foundation to provide these for the folks interested in utilizing this approach rather than several groups doing them separately or expecting folks to commit volunteer time to what is a rather time consuming design process. --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 15:35, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Mark for translation? edit

@BFlores (WMF): This page is marked as a draft, but it’s already marked for translation. Should I push the new version for translation, or are further changes expected in the near future? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:24, 6 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Tacsipacsi: Thanks for flagging this. This is still in a draft status and will be finalized. I will ping you here once it is ready for translation. --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 15:25, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunate links edit

The labels of three images are "Human figure" and link w:Human figure which redirects to w:Nude (art), this isn't intentional I think. --Pyfisch (talk) 19:51, 20 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Pyfisch Thanks for the heads up. We have corrected the link. --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 14:49, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Keith Haring edit

These materials look a lot like Keith Haring artwork from the 1980s. Look here, for instance.--- Darwin Ahoy! 23:31, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi @User:DarwIn The link downloads a non-working file. Can you check the link and ping me? Thanks. --Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 14:50, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hello @Selsharbaty (WMF):, the link works fine for me, in Google Chrome. It's not really an issue, I just found curious that a lot of those icons look a lot like something from Keith Haring. After posting the message, I searched the work of both artists, and found that some of Karabo Poppy Moletsane work look indeed like /is quite reminiscent of Keith Haring.--- Darwin Ahoy! 15:48, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @DarwIn:. Interesting observation. Yes, I can see how Karabo’s work could be reminiscent of Keith Haring. She also has very strong Southern African design principles and influence in her work. For instance, Xhosa traditional monochromatic prints and strong bold lines, as well as Ndebele art for colour choices and geometric shaping. I suppose, in the end, art will continually borrow from art to make more art.--Selsharbaty (WMF) (talk) 15:54, 1 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
