Providing internet on the ground edit
When there is a disaster it is important to have the information accessible.
This means the information has to be created first and accessed at the desired moment. However, at the aftermath of a disaster internetconnection can be less than optimal.
My first question is: Can Wikimedia play a role in providing this internetconnection? Derived from this is: How can we do this? What methods are available (internet-in-a-boxx) and how can we operationalize this?

- Providing offline content (offline Wikipedias like Kiwix) could be very helpful if the disaster is huge and for a longer time. On Wikibooks we should have some survival books.
- We should also support community networks like en:Freifunk and find ways to give them Uninterruptible power supply. --Kolossos (talk) 08:03, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
Tools to surface "breaking news" articles edit
Wikipedia Live Monitor is a tool that surfaces articles that are being edited frequently be several users on several projects. That could be of interest to find articles of interest for this area (even though a lot of the candidates are sports events). Also available as a twitter feed. Logo proposal edit

Wikimedia workshop at German Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction edit
The German Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction is to take place online on 19-20 October, 2020. I had submitted a workshop "Contributions of the ecosystem around Wikipedia to communication and knowledge exchange in disaster contexts", which has been accepted and is now part of the program, scheduled to take place on 19 October at 11:30 am CEST, right after the opening panel and in parallel to some other workshops. No action needed from anyone here, but if any of you would like to be involved in preparing and/ or running the workshop, please let me know. Registration to the entire conference is free, and if you are interested in participating, please go ahead and register.
