Talk:Wikimedia Foundation Board noticeboard/April 2022 - Board seats in 2022 and 2023

A welcome update edit

I'm glad to see the expansion isn't being rushed, and that appointed seats continue to be used this way. It is good to have a specific model for expansion as an option, without the obligation to implement it. –SJ talk  21:54, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Again this community-and-affiliate-selected nonsense edit

Community and affiliates are two very distinct entities, they must not be mixed. This nonsense started some time ago, when they were suddenly and without any proper reasoning, let alone community decision, suddenly mixed together. They should be separated again as soon as possible. Grüße vom Sänger ♫(Reden) 05:16, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just saw it, it was this change of the bylaws, that suddenly mixed them together instead of pa proper separation. Were was this bylaw change discussed and vetted by the community? The community is, after all, the highest entity in the Wikiverse, the board is just the trustee of the bosses, the community. They must never ever act without community consensus with such rather important matters. Grüße vom Sänger ♫(Reden) 05:20, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Sänger: There was a consultation on the bylaws draft in 2020, before that vote: Wikimedia Foundation Board noticeboard/October 2020 - Proposed Bylaws changes.
You can find there some discussions over this topic. The final approved text included the unification, but tweaked some concerning wordings (I'm thinking about the use of "community-sourced" instead of "community- and affiliate-selected"). (I'm just providing a link, I do not have any explanation to offer - I was not part of the board at that time). - Laurentius (talk) 13:51, 24 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've been part of that rather futile discussion as well, as those from the service organisation WMF refused to listen to the communities once again. It was a lot just about the mentioned sourced vs. selected (let alone the proper elected, with no say from the current board at all), it was as well about the unnecessary expansion of non-elected members, but I can't find any mentioning of the merger of those completely distinct type of seats. Community elected and affiliate elected are two completely different things, that must not be mixed at all (and that was never discussed on that page afair).
