Proposal at en.wb to lift game strategy restrictions
editWe have a proposal going on at Wikibooks regarding lifting the long-standing policy not to allow strategy guides. Should this succeed, I see no point of having Wikigames. Leaderboard (talk) 11:44, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: Why this discussion is related? Are you sure that all Wikibookses, not only the English one, would accept so instead of looking in favor of Wikigames proposal? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 10:49, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Liuxinyu970226: The discussion is related because it directly addresses the concern that led to the proposal. As for the second part, that is something that the individual language editions would have to decide, though however it's hoped that our acceptance of video game strategy guides would spur the others to similarly allow them. Plus a lot of the supports come from a Wikipedia-centric view that have forgotten about the presence of Wikibooks. (BTW: as you may have noticed, we've already decided to accept them in principle; it's the policies that need to be framed now) Leaderboard (talk) 11:54, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: "we've already decided...", me either? "it's the policies that need to be framed now" need to be framed in English, but not always needed for other languages, aren't they? Still, what you said here is en.wikibooks-centralized, not all Wikibookses-centralized, and not globally applied. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:30, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
- Just give you some examples why English projects' policies and/or guidelines don't automatically applied to others, English Wikipedia has Arbitration Committee and ran for several years, but on the zhwiki part, they rejected such a proposal for several decades. English Wikinews let users to not assume anything, but the Persian users said, that fa.wikinews users should always Assume Good Faith. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:35, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Liuxinyu970226: It is hoped that other languages follow the same path as English. Additionally, the initial ban on video games was kind of done by Jimbo Wales, and hence I think changing that should be easier, now that it has been shown that this is wrong.
- The point I am trying to make is that the supporters haven't realised that Wikibooks could be the ideal place for the content that Wikigames is supposed to host. Leaderboard (talk) 08:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard: The same clauses were applied to the travel guide proposal, but then what happened? We now have Wikivoyage, so again, English Wiki* said != (or even ≠) all Wiki*s must obey. Please, please and again please, no more "hoped that other languages follow English" please. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:55, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Liuxinyu970226: I should have said this - but fr.wikibooks had already allowed video game strategy guides for years... Also, (1) I do not have background information about what happened with Wikivoyage, and (2) some language-edition wikibooks have already started: de.wikibooks said that they will consider, fa.wikibooks has already started if I'm right. We've also posted this in Wikimedia Forum. Leaderboard (talk) 07:58, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

- Just note that I've contacted a Board of Trustees member via email yesterday to see if there's potential times to let board members to review this proposal, so don't hope that this can be rejected by non-board member users. (The I believe that the only question is, can I use "status = submitted" parameter?) --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 04:01, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
