"A background book image?!", i though when i read what you wrote and then i saw the image.

Recent changes

If you disagree with changes being made to this page, blind reversion isn't a form of discussion. Many people, including me, are at fault with regard to that.

The Vector skin is being imposed. Saying otherwise is disingenuous. There is no opt-out, as far as I'm aware, site-wide. That's a legitimate question to include in such a FAQ.

This is not a Usability team press release. They have their own wiki for that and a variety of other sources. Please stop copying and pasting useless fluff into the lead. If this guide is supposed to "cater to 'power-users'," there's absolutely no need for verbatim PR blog copy. --MZMcBride 01:44, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Template?

It'd be nice to have a template or some other clear device to show users who come to Vector from other projects how and where exactly they can give feedback on Vector. There's been some great feedback on Commons that I don't think the usability team was aware of. A quick search of the Usability wiki didn't bring up a clear place to give feedback just for Vector. The "New!" link on the top of the page on Commons lead you to a feedback survey, if you are logged in. Sitenotice has a link to the discussion section of Village Pump. We, the usability team, initiated the thread there. We are reading the feedback on Commons. The new version of Commons

I am not sure if this the right place to write about the new version of Commons, but it is horrible. The major problem is that now the Commonist is not working. Please Help!!!!!. I went back to the old and better version but the Commonist is still not working. Who is responsible to fix it? See Commons:Tools/Commonist Hanay 03:24, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

button slideshow (done)

hi, I wonder if this is the right page to ask wheter anybody knows how I get rid of the button animations? They always slide to the right on every (!) page I open. I get headache from this (really, I do). Do I have to switch back to monobook because of this or is there any other solution to stop this animation? --Sargoth 10:41, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Customization of the advanced tool bar

Is there any way how to incorporate my own buttons, which I have had in my monobook.js, into the new enhanced editing toolbar? I copied the content of my monobook.js into vector.js, but it did not help. Or do I have to choose between the old toolbar with my own buttons and the "advanced" one without them?

How to add vector?

It's not in the (current) publicly available MediaWiki version, but it will be released in the next one. See here for more info. Killiondude 16:26, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

However, the code is public and is a part of the "UsabilityInitiative" extension. You might be able to find some way to include it in your local installation by following the instructions on that page. Cbrown1023 talk 21:17, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

I could be wrong but last time I tried a small wiki with the new beta (1.16.0beta3) and the extension, it was the MediaWiki install that provided the skin itself (so you need 1.16.0beta3 or higher). The extension then adds extra functionality of which most functions are only available in the Vector skin, which itself afaik is not part of the extension. Also, if you by a workaround copy the /skins/vector to a stable 1.15.x MediaWiki install, chances are it wont work since the skin and/or the Extension make use of several functions new in 1.16 –Krinkle^talk 15:48, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

@import

Using @import url("http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Example/monobook.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css"); makes it impossible to use Wikipedia securely; even when you browse via secure.wikimedia.org it will load your old CSS unencrypted, and your session cookie will be sent in plaintext with the request. @import url("index.php?title=User:Example/monobook.css&action=raw&ctype=text/css"); will point to the correct file both with http and https. --Tgr 06:28, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Not underlining links - since when?

We no longer underline links by default. Anyone know when and why this changed? Recently, I think. I can override this at Preferences ... Appearance ... Advanced options ... Underline links, but I'm very surprised this was changed and wonder if there was consensus for this; it's a very fundamental UI change. --Elvey (talk) 17:48, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Ah, it's just that I can't see the difference between the very dark blue of already-visited links and black text on this display. Probably changed years ago.--Elvey (talk) 18:15, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
