Hard to translate en-ja

edit

@KVaidla_(WMF), would you care to look through the Change_log for en-ja translation please? Scroll down for details in en. Summed up for our ja readers.

I have retouched the translation per the input at the Session2, Community consultation (9 December 2022 on Zoom): My concern is that sentence to sentence, translation in ja has elements not presented in en original, which is on the gray zone of Meta translation.

As you see on the page, basically, added/replaced:

  • (a) term specifications where I applied an indicator [※] with original term in en, as intended to convey it is not yet a naturalized/widely accepted term/concept among ja readers; and,
  • (b) some pronouns were replaced, or " it/they etc", with what we call the entity or the actor here in proper nouns, detailed below (3).
Session2 Community consultation and remarks

Points were indicated by the participants among multiple languages, which resonates in the language pair of en-ja:

(1) As for en-ja translation, when we signify if the word group suggest a definite Chapter of the Charter, better enclose the chapter title(s) between sets of ["]: it was not suggested during the Session2, but in ja writing, handier for our readers to know the sentence refers to a Charter chapter.

(2) For proper nouns: suggested during Session2. I supplemented to MCDC a shorter name in ja, especially when MCDC appears the second time in the same or near paragraph, and among a groups of dagger list:

  • the full name is 運動憲章起草委員会;
  • I used shorter name as 起草委員会.
    • I could condense the noun to the minimum length 起草委, and it still tells the meaning.

(3) Pronouns. Suggested at Session2, community consultation ESEAP. The general idea applying abbreviation in alphabets, and I talk about specifics in ja writing/translation. Essenes is in above (b). Such terms as MCDC tends to have the entity slip from your mind, or cases are that they are mistaken to different body, since abbreviation of proper nouns are applied ja-specific format as I gave example herein.
