Talk:List of Wikipedias/lang

This template allows the regularly updated wikitext http://s23.org/wikistats/wikipedias_simplewiki.php to produce tables of Wikipedias by size. The wikitext refers to "/lang" for use on List of Wikipedias, but there the also regularly updated longer wikitext http://s23.org/wikistats/wikipedias_wiki.php without template calls is used, because of the limitation mentioned below.

To use this template on a page "A" there needs to be a redirect from "A/lang" to "List of Wikipedias/lang", e.g. List of Wikipedias/lang/demo/lang (talk, backlinks, edit).

Limitation

Due to the pre-expand include size maximumhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Template limits of 2,048,000 bytes, the full version of this template can only be included 66 times on a page. This is because for each inclusion 4 templates are called (two of which are called twice) which each serve as array with about 250 elements (one for each language). (Thus for overviews of all languages the pre-expand include size is proportional to the square of the number of languages.)

It uses:

• Template:N en (twice) aa=Afar
• Template:N dir (twice) aa|ab|af|ak|als|am|an|and|ang|as|arn|ast|av|ay|az=ltr
• Template:N wiki article aa=w:Afar language
• Template:N local aa=Afar

Currently it is a simplified version, allowing List of Wikipedias/lang/demo to show all languages.

It uses:

• Template:N en (once)
• Template:N dirc (once)

Pre-expand include size: 1604864 bytes.

Discussion

RobiH, your changes to the template today have broken List of Wikipedias because {{N local}} uses HTML tags to specify the text-direction for right-to-left languages, and HTML tags aren't allowed in link targets (they're allowed only in link text). – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 01:33, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
