Talk:Fund drives/2005/Q4 planning/Translations

Title

edit

The title that the fund drive letter will be under is going to be the same as in Q3 fundraising, or it is to be replaced with this new one: "Knowledge is power. Help keep it free!" ? --M/ 15:37, 29 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Literalness in translations

edit

How literal should the translations be? Ie. should the Hebrew one mirror exactly what the English one says, or should it speak to the audience of most Hebrew readers, saying what connects more to that demographic? Mkop

The English version is just a reference version. I do not expect slavish translation. Please, localize translations. --Daniel Mayer 23:13, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry

edit

I translated (I think I did) the message Fund_drives/2005/Q4_planning/Translations for vec:wiki (in Venetian language) but, due to my low knowledge of the software, the thing seems not working. Can anyone help? Tks :) (Horatius)

Ang update

edit

The title was translated into Anglo-Saxon. Does the site administrator for that wiki need to update the site, or does someone here? It's still in modern English on ang.wikipedia.org

Spanish translation?

edit

I believe for the spanish translation it should be Wikipedia necisita su ayuda. Why, A) tu is farmiliar it should be formal aka usted form, and B) the de is unecesary. Am I correct in this?--71.67.141.38 06:02, 22 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

"tu" is familiar, of course, but is the most widely form used in most countries, and most used in this context for charities, because "su" is too formal, too distant. Of course, it's not the same in all countries, so in some places could be better "su". In es.wikipedia, we use "tu" when asking for contributors, or talking to other people, so I think the translation is all right. --Comae 19:55, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jimbo's appeal in Spanish, done

edit

I translated Jimbo's appeal in w:es:Wikipedia:Solicitud de fondos before seeing this page, so you can use that for the Spanish version. --Comae 19:55, 3 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
