Blogging

edit

Hi everyone! Let's start creating some blog content, shall we? :) This content will be created using the system the WMF Communications team have created of here. When you start a draft (you can even start it in Google Doc or whatever you prefer and then move it over to meta) then others can proof it in the spirit of wiki and then we'll move it over to the WMF blog. Blogs are generally under 700 words - and the best blogs are 500-600 words.

They're also giving us our own keyword(s). For our keywords I was thinking:

  • WikiWomen
  • Women

What do you think?

Ideally, we'd like at least 2 blogs a week, and more if possible. Also, we can blog in more than one language!! We can have blogs translated in any language! (Well, almost any) So don't forget.

Blogging ideas

edit

Let's starting brainstorming ideas and start getting some content in the pipeline.

  • Interviews and blogs about wiki women. (Create a list of women of interest - including each other on this project!!)
  • Let's celebrate the work of women who edit and contribute to Wikimedia projects. This also could involve stories of frustration and struggle and how women editors overcame those situations to be productive happy editors.
  • Wiki Loves Monuments contributions by women or places about women's history
  • Showcase great article and content contributions by women or about women
  • Events and activities (edit-a-thons, meetups)
  • The people doing the Carleton University edit-a-thon are going to blog about it in a week or so.

Looking forward to seeing your ideas!

Hi! Let's interview user:BrownHairedGirl and User:Gerda Arendt! --Rosiestep (talk) 01:46, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I don't recall the genders of many editors as women other than the obvious Sarah Stierch (hope that's spelt properly) and Roscelese. Photography competitions could be interesting, finding the best image to sum up the collab and uploading it, meet-ups, i particularly like the idea of edit-a-thons for this topic also and would look forward to that. Hope that helps Jenova20 (talk) 08:44, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I would like to interview User:Lvova. She has expressed interest in giving the interview. --Netha Hussain (talk) 10:54, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think that User:Phoebe who has been around since 2003, wrote a book about Wikipedia, and served on the Board of Trustees for 2 years, would be an interesting person to interview. User:‎ASengupta (WMF) and User:Gyoung, otherwise known as Anasuya Sengupta and Gayle Young would be a good people to write about, too. They are both employees of WMF. Although they are not specifically tasked with solving the gender gap as part of their work for the WMF, from my conversations with them, I know that they have an interest in the topic. I think that highlighting these women will expose the community and beyond to women who are making a difference in the Wikimedia Foundation movement every day through their work for the Foundation. --FloNight (talk) 18:53, 12 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Translations and non-english blog posts

edit

Hi! It's not very clear to me where translations and non-english blog posts will be placed: will they be published on the Foundation blog or somewhere else? --Atropine (talk) 09:18, 27 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi everyone! Exciting news - our new blog channel is here. This is where all of our blogs will be housed.

I'd like to have two blogs to post per week. Does anyone have anything in the channel?

Please share! I am announcing the project today on the blog and our Facebook and Twitter will launch, too. Can't wait to have you involved in all of that and to share your work!!! -- SarahStierch (talk) 19:00, 26 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

Help from you

edit

Hello Wiki Women's Collaborative/Volunteers I was honored to notice that I was included on the page of Notable Women Photographers, List of women photographers in Wikipedia. Along with my profound commitment to being a mother, I have been devoted to creating art in photography and deeply grateful for all the recognition I have received. Recently, I completed a project, which is not listed on the page about my work - it is an 8 year study of women around the world - here is the montage and the website: https://vimeo.com/35541100 - I would love it to be included on my page called Linda Wolf - perhaps you can make this happen? But apart from that, I noticed that while I'm listed on the list called Notable Women Photographers, I saw that I am not listed under W on the same page and would ask that my name be added there, as well. All recognition of my work is a great gift. Thank you to Wikipedia for honoring so many of us who are working daily on what matters to women. Linda Wolf (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
