Requests for new languages/Wiktionary Bhojpuri

submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

Project is eligible. Please contribute to the test at incubator:Wt/bho. For LangCom: StevenJ81 (talk) 16:14, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Proposal edit

Bhojpuri is spoken by 33 million people in India [3] in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. It is also spoken in areas of Nepal. Migrant Indian communities have tranported the language to Maurtius and Trinidad. It has also greatly influenced newly koined languages of Fiji Hindi and Sarnami.

Discussion edit

Arguments in favour edit

  • I am a native of this language and I support this proposal becouse Bhojpuri is a local language but it have an international ranking. Bhojpuri is officially recognized in Nepal.
  • Bhaal! A Wiktonary in Bhojpuri language should be created as it does not exist right now. --173.55.239.44 06:27, 15 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, Excellent suggestion. It has its unique and very rich vocabulary and sounds. The Idioms and other connections of Bhojpuri are worth a Wiktionay.

Arguments against edit

Other discussion edit

Note that this Wiktionary was existing under https://bh.wiktionary.org/ which was closed years ago, but as phab:T41968 said, we should better migrate our usages of bh to bho, do we agree creating a separate bho.wiktionary.org instead of re-opening bh.wiktionary.org? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:22, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
