Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Chittagonian

submitted verification final decision

This language has been verified as eligible.
The language is eligible for a project, which means that the subdomain can be created once there is an active community and a localized interface, as described in the language proposal policy. You can discuss the creation of this language project on this page.

Once the criteria are met, the language committee can proceed with the approval and will verify the test project content with a reliable neutral source, such as a professor or expert.

If you think the criteria are met, but the project is still waiting for approval, feel free to notify the committee and ask them to consider its approval.

A committee member provided the following comment:

It is believed that the proposer is not a contributor to the project, but the project itself is eligible anyway. Currently, the project does not meet the criteria for approval, but if it does, site settings will need to be modified by the contributors. --Sotiale (talk) 12:12, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
  • The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
  • The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:
What Value Example / Explanation

This language have a project in Wikimedia Incubator, which is active, but it did not have a request here. It's a language with 13 000 000 users.Пан Хаунд (talk) 07:32, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments in favour

  1. Support Why not? Having a well contribution community from Bangladesh. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:51, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Support As I have already said, it's a widely spoken language. And the community is really strong. Пан Хаунд (talk) 15:36, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Support --Shakib69SH (talk) 03:54, 09 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments against

  1. Oppose As it is considered as a Bengali dialect and Bengali Wikipedia is already available there. The speakers of this dialect can easily understand, read and write Standard Bengali also. Snusho (talk) 22:46, 08 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Neutral This language community has millions of users, as mentioned here. There was a discussion between the BN language community and the CTG language community. It seems like, after the heated discussion, the CTG community refused to write in the Bengali-Assamese alphabet, they were using the Chittagong alphabet based on the Bengali-Assamese script (see Omniglot documentation). As the BN community opposed and raised the issue of fundamental research, later native CTG users left the project. A formal opinion of the Wikimedia Language committee, in this matter is unknown. An edit war took place (check the redirects) between these two groups, regarding which orthography to use, BN or CTG. We don't mind helping and contributing once this issue between the two groups has been resolved. Peace ☮ --ꠢꠣꠍꠘ ꠞꠣꠎꠣ (talk) 07:26, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
