Introduction to copyright and open access, with a focus on social media is a workshop lead by Suzanna Marazza and addressing students of the bachelor course in visual communication.
When Visual Communication students want to share and publish their creations on the Internet, they are confronted with a number of legal issues, such as their rights vis-à-vis third parties interested in re-using the shared content or the rights of the people involved in the shoot. The workshop therefore aims to transmit to students the main knowledge needed to be able to correctly manage the sharing and publication of their own content. In particular, the programme proposes an overview of copyright, Creative Commons licences and personal data protection applied to what could be the typical situations of a Visual Communication student, answering questions such as "When does copyright apply?", "Can I integrate any image or music in my video?", "Why and how do I have to make a release to the people involved?", "Do I have to notify SUPSI before publishing my creations on my personal website?", "What is a video and how is it released in Open Access?". To make the workshop interactive and based on practical cases, you will always be given the opportunity to ask questions and express your doubts on the topic.
The workshop is designed to meet the needs of Visual Communication students with a focus on the production and sharing of audiovisual materials. Participation is also extended to a limited number (maximum 10) of SUPSI employees.
