I would like to request adminship to help out with the Central Notices. I'm an active volunteer for WMNL and since the change in the request page, noticing how the Central Notices are getting more complicated for users to design and put up on their wiki's. I have over ten years of experience as an admin on the Dutch Wikipedia and am a Commons admin and am on the OTRS team. Ciell (talk) 09:56, 9 December 2016 (UTC)
- What is your HTML/CSS/JavaScript proficiency? --Base (talk) 21:48, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Base,
- I don't have a lot of experience writing scripts, besides Wikipedia and Wordpress. I do have the support of User:SindyM3 who's been working at the WMNL office since 2012, is in charge of our website and is willing to learn me the ropes. I'm aware that the Central Notices setting has a very high impact on the site and will be very carefull using it. Ciell (talk) 20:50, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- That is fine, some complex scripts are rarely used there, while intermediate or better HTML and CSS knowledge are indeed required as banners are written in them and not in wikitext (which I am just making sure that you know ). I tend to Support this with just a small formal confirmation from you that you have the grasp on how all those banners-campaigns things work. There seem to be no reasons to don't trust you with the tool given that sysop flags background and Special:Permalink/16167743#CentralNotice_WLM_GR_awards_event is an unfortunate illustration that we do need extra hands with this. --Base (talk) 02:38, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Base,
- Thanks for your support, but I don't consider myself as an intermediate at HTML and CSS yet, I'm sorry. If that's what's required, maybe some one else should become a central notice admin, because I do think you all could use some help... Sorry if I'm mistaken in this. - I'd appreciate further participation in this request before granting this sensitive permission. I'm thinking on posting a notice at Meta:Babel. —MarcoAurelio 19:56, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
- I think the issue is rather that Ciell voiced they are unsure themself if they have the required technical knowledge, than people not noticing this request. Unless there is any further clarification, I think there is nothing to add to Base's comment which is the reason of absence of more comments. @Ciell: I personally think CNs can be managed even without being an HTML "expert", one just needs to know where to look up HTML basics on the internet. That is usually sufficient, but of course requires some time. --Vogone (talk) 18:53, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
- I don't mind putting time into a request, I think it's fun to learn new things. Indeed I've been looking up on html and css and found a good webpage that explanes a lot. Ciell (talk) 20:17, 23 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Vogone and Ciell: If I understand rightly, Vogone does not oppose either and Ciell still wants to be added. If so, I think we can add Ciell to the group. —MarcoAurelio 11:31, 7 January 2017 (UTC)
