I would like to be a sysop because...
Well, I've started becoming more active on here as of late, though initially it was more as a springboard for my insane interwiki editing sprees. However, I've come across several items that it would have been nice if I could have just deleted them myself, so I feel like I've got a legitimate need for the sysop bit.
For those that don't know me, I'm an administrator on en.wp with a little under 22k edits (and an admin on Commons as well, though I haven't been as active there as I thought I'd be). I also edit over a wide number of projects, primarily maintaining interwikis links across languages (initially with project namespace pages, but lately its been babel boxes); I maintain a matrix of my accounts at User:EVula/matrix.
On Meta, I've focused more on making sure we're in sync with the rest of the projects. For example, I try to keep Meta:Babel templates up to date [1] and making corrections to Meta:Index/Requests and proposals [2][3]. I also enjoy doing a lot of behind the scenes work, like standardizing the display of {{Babel list of languages}} [4]. I've also started creating some standardized templates for localized translations of articles, such as {{WrongVersion/lang}} and {{Megalomaniacal}} (incidentally, I'm looking for feedback on them over at Metapub, if anyone would like to comment).
I welcome any and all feedback. Thanks! EVula // talk // 16:39, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support excellent admin at enwp, will do fine. Melsaran 19:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I would feel comfortable with EVula having the sysop tools here. --Anonymous DissidentTalk 22:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Support sure. You also detect pages who need to be deleted fast! --OosWesThoesBes 15:40, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose You have only been active here in the passed few days[5] Carbon Monoxide 21:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I can understand that being a deal-breaker for you. However, up until recently, I've been using Meta as a springboard for edits elsewhere, rather than staying exclusively on Meta. For example, my edits to Meta:Index/Requests and proposals are tied to my editing across several different projects and languages, but only shows up here as a handful of edits (and, more often than not, it shows up as userspace edits to my matrix). Some of those edits represent a substantial amount of time spent following links and making sure that they're (a) not redirects and (b) are even to the right pages (not to mention whether they actually exist or not). The link you provide is also slightly misleading, as it shows only my main namespace edits; a lot of the time-consuming edits that I mentioned have been in the Meta namespace, and I'm currently working on standardizing some of the multi-language templates; that contribs link doesn't take either into account, though I consider both to be very important.
Now that I'm becoming more active, I'm finding myself needing the tools (such as flagging pages for speedy deletion), which is my personal requirement before submitting an RfA (on any wiki). EVula // talk // 15:41, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to Oppose this. Firstly I would stress that this has nothing to do with trust and competence of the user. However on Commons in the summer there was a burst of activity and then an RfA (which passed with no opposition) and then very little activity. In practice there is always admin work available on Commons whereas here there are a lot of admins (quite a few who are inactive) and little real work. This is after quite a bit of thought and reluctantly and I am happy to be proved wrong- I like people who help out, thanks Support! --Herby talk thyme 07:16, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, I certainly can't argue with you. You're pretty spot on; I just frankly haven't been as active on Commons as I thought I'd be when I submitted my RfA. Not long after getting the sysop bit on Commons, I started working on Shakespeare in the Park here in Nashville,[6] which ran for four weeks (and in mostly 100° F weather, too). That effectively knocked me out of my groove (on a lot more than just Commons work), and since I already wander from project to project, Commons effectively fell out of my rotation. Is that an actual excuse? No. (well, it is, it's just exceptionally bad one...)
The best I can do is tell you that I will step up my Commons admin work as well, regardless of how this RfA ends up going. EVula // talk // 15:41, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Thanks for the participation, everyone. I appreciate the opportunity, and look forward to *not* screwing things up. :) EVula // talk // ☯ // 15:58, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
