Meta:Requests for adminship/Dschwen
- The following discussion is preserved as an archive of a closed Meta-Wiki request. Please do not modify it.
- At least 100 valid contributions on another Wikimedia project: about 10000 across different projects (mainly commons, de, en)
- Not yet 100 valid contributions on the Meta-Wiki: Check
- Administrator of another project: commons:User:Dschwen
- Meta userpage: User:Dschwen, with a matrix of links to other projects.
- Valid contact address: Special:Emailuser/Dschwen, active and validated.
- Have read (and understand) Meta admin policy: Yes.
As I do not fullfill the 100 edit criteria for meta I'd like to apply for temporary adminship (to be reviewed later). I'm the creator of the WikiMiniAtlas, a drag- and zoomable map plugin for wikimedia projects. The WikiMiniAtlas is activated by default on the italian and portugese Wikipedias. Currently there is a discussion about default activation on the english wikipedia. As a multi-project effort I believe a central place here on meta would be beneficial. Not only for the documentation, but also for the JavaScript. For security reasons it would have to be placed in the MediaWiki namespace (like on commons) requiring me, as the maintainer, to have admin privileges. --Dschwen 23:17, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- If the only reason you want sysop is to edit that one page, couldn't someone else just make the edits? (Is it heavily updated?) Thanks! xaosflux Talk 05:02, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- It is javascript that is constantly under development. The easier it is for me to update my own code the more often it will happen. --Dschwen 06:28, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Temporary access granted, expires 16 September. Please leave this request here until then. --.anaconda 11:30, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm confused. If you're now a temp, why move this request to the current requests section for permanent? Are you now asking for permanent adminship? I'd say spend a week or two as a temp and then ask, that will leave you time to get the bit .. and do it with a new nomination so this one remains a record of when and why you got the temporary adminship. All IMHO of course. ++Lar: t/c 19:36, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I haven't moved it, it was here from the start (is there a different section I should have put the request?). I'll follow your suggestion and refile a new request for permanent adminship in due time (the old request is restored to its original state when I had only 98 edits). --Dschwen 20:03, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- No there isn't actually a different section, that's not it, it just looked like it was morphing into something else, sorry if I confused the issue! There's plenty to do here, most of the admins here have other responsibilities as well... ++Lar: t/c 01:10, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Generally, unless the temp-access granted user is confused his access with the perm one, that is, his admin actions should be restricted within the the technical purpose(s) requested, grant of temp access for the technical purpose makes no harm. I would like Dschwen to remark his or her restriction and use the granted power wisely.
- If I recall correctly we had former a section for temp admin, but it looks like vanishing. Maybe we'd better to coin a distinct marker, but anyway it isn't a big deal. I'd propose to close this request and archive it to the temp admin section. --Aphaia 02:06, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm currently moving and will be back early October. Please consider this when evaluating my current activity. I'll need the access to the WikiMiniAtlas script then and will reapply for adminship. --Dschwen 15:12, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Any reason NOT to archive this? It seems all sorted now. I'll archive it soon if no one objects ++Lar: t/c 16:03, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
