Quick Question edit

I apologise, as I do not read either Galician or Spanish, but am I to assume from the "travel from Galicia" that this event will not actually be held in Galicia, where the language is spoken? If so, what is the rationale for this? It would almost certainly be cheaper and have more impact to hold the event in Galicia itself, I would think. Craig Franklin (talk) 11:56, 15 January 2013 (UTC).Reply

This seems a pretty fair question, the event is not held in Galicia?--3BRBS (talk) 15:00, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
The event will be held in Santiago de Compostela, at the heart of Galicia, I suppose. Some minor matters to discuss:
  • It would be better if you explain the itineraries of the travels and the means of transportation out of Galicia, if you have some confirmations. I see several names for speakers and some confirmed. Do you plan to pay the transportation for three, only? The others will cover their own expenses?
  • Have you contacted the municipality of Santiago de Compostela or University of Santiago de Compostela for the venue of the event yet? This is important. Regards, --ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 18:57, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, this point looks a bit in disorder. Galicia is a region in Spain, and Santiago de Compostela is a city in Galicia, as ProtoplasmaKid had pointed.
Answering ProtoplasmaKid, one of the confirmed speakers comes from Barcelona and other from Madrid, and they have to go to Santiago in plane, and they will need accomodation in a hotel. We have planned to bring three speakers from Galicia and other three of out of Galicia, therefore we have separated the expenses of ones and others. And yes, we have contacted with University of Santiago de Compostela and CESGA for the venue of the event, we hope to have it ready in some days, when we have achieved it we will warn in the page. Greetings, --Elisardojm (talk) 21:47, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response, Elisardojm, I think you should clarify this point in the Grant submission. Saludos, --ProtoplasmaKid (talk) 23:08, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have added some of the details in the Grant submission. Saludos :), --Elisardojm (talk) 00:15, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
This makes sense, and is much better now. Thankyou :-). Craig Franklin (talk) 12:09, 24 January 2013 (UTC).Reply

Venue edit

Next tuesday we have a meeting with the Vice-chancellor of Students of the USC (University of Santiago Compostela) to treat the subject of the venue. When we have more news we will publish them in this page. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 00:35, 19 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The USC has confirmed that it allows us to use an events room in the CM Fonseca. Now we will put us to elaborate the program to begin the diffusion as soon as possible. Cheers, --Elisardojm (talk) 02:32, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

speakers edit

I would be happy to approve this grant request, but I find it odd that for 40 person who plan to attend this conference you need to have 3 speakers from outside the city and the fact that about 70% of the budget goes for this cost. We had great meetups events here in Israel (of 100+ participates), and I never saw the need to brings outside speakers. especially not 3 and when there is so expensive cost for that. I think one will be enough in this case. Also, I think you need to budget more than cake - drinks and snacks. even pizza for lunch if you planning half day meetup (and if you had planed to invite 3 speakers, I believe you planned about half/full day, not?) --Itzike (talk) 17:56, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

It is complicated to achieve speakers on these subjects, at least in Galicia this culture is not quite developed. Besides we have treated to achieve speakers that are a reference in his fields so that they have the greater possible interest, and this involves to look for people of Seville or Barcelona that they has to do a big trip.
The act that we are preparing only goes to realise in the morning, therefore we only have foreseen take the cakes for the celebration of the anniversary with the assistants. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 03:44, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Event edit

If the event will take just several hours long and all three speakers are from Spain, why do you need accommodation in a hotel? And even so, why is there a budget of 500/person? Considering you can buy an airline tickets for 35€-50€ from Barcelona to Santiago 9th March (depart: 06:15-08:10 (9th) / return: 20:40-22:25 (9th)) and the actual prize of a double room for a single night is less cheap than 80€ (*** Hotels), these diets seem really high. How much money will you pay to each speaker for his or her attendance? (are they Wikimedia Spain volunteer and members, or not?) Do you think that this event will help to reach your goal to promote Galician wikipedia?

The best event to foster Galician project is a party or event to take care of veteran editors and attract new ones, no some speeches about free licenses. Something similar to 10th anniversary of the Catalan wikipedia Party (which included a open meet up, an exhibition about the history of the project and several citizen's workshops) could be more appropiate. My impression is that proposal will become a frozen event far from the real Galician community.--KRLS (talk) 17:14, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
