Most uses of the term "North America" include Mexico and Greenland, if not some of the nearby island nations and regions.

If you want this region to be just US & Canada, please name it "US & Canada". Applying a new definition to an existing term leads to confusion and has ripply effects. For instance, this special use of the phrase has now made it into the UC charter. While there may be reasons to distribute funds differently outside these two countries, I don't think it is culturally or socially helpful to design new terminology for a subregion containing only two countries. –SJ talk  16:50, 20 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Sj: Thanks for this feedback. As it happens, this region was formerly referred to as US & Canada, but was changed to bring the Community Resources team's work in line with the rest of the Wikimedia Foundation, which does not have a specific designation for "U.S. & Canada" around its broader strategic work. As you've noted, there are some funding-specific reasons we designated this region U.S. & Canada originally. I will see if it is possible for us to revert the naming of the region to its previous title. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 21:39, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
