Grants talk:Project/Rapid/UNI Feminist 2020
Comments from WMF
editHello ActionableIdeas, thank you for submitting this rapid grant application. We have reviewed it and left a few comments and questions regarding your application:
- Your budget mentions funds for advertising but the application does not describe an advertising plan. Could you please update your response to question 2 in the Project Plan section to include a description of how you’ll use the advertising budget?
- Similarly, the budget requests money for swag. Could you please elaborate on that line item to indicate what swag you’d like to purchase and who it will be given to? (i.e. is it for any/all participants or to be used as prizes for the people with the most contributions, etc.)
We look forward to reading your responses and making a funding decision. Thank you for taking the time to make these edits! Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 23:58, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, WJifar (WMF), thank you for the opportunity to address your questions about the budget. Here are the answers. I will also add this information to the proposal.
- In addition to the free advertising opportunities to reach people on campus and those the library is subsidizing (e.g posters), we plan to spend $15 per editathon on Facebook Boost advertising. Our community really runs on Facebook, so it is the single best place to reach people. The library has successfully used Facebook Boosts for other events. We hope to replicate this previous success and reach new editors with this advertising tactic.
- We plan to purchase items from the Wikimedia store as prizes for participants. Some prizes will be given for completing a Wikipedia bingo card we've created to gamify the editing experience. We'll also have three levels of prizes for most contributions for each editathon. For those who attend multiple editathons, we'll have three culminating gifts for those who contribute the most over the course of the editathons. The specific items we plan to purchase are Wikipedia globe buttons (2 orders=$20 for bingo), Wikipedia notebooks (5 orders=#40, four most contributed prizes plus one culminating prize), Be Bold mugs (4 orders=$40 for contribution prizes), Wikipedia water bottle (1 order=$15, culminating prize), and Wikipedia tote (1 order=$25, culminating prize).
- If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing from you with a funding decision. Best, ActionableIdeas (talk) 17:30, 3 December 2019 (UTC)ActionableIdeas

Approved
editHello ActionableIdeas, thank you for answering all our questions. I am approving your grant request. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 00:21, 4 December 2019 (UTC)
Updated Budget Request
editIn light of the Wikimedia moratorium on in-person (off-line) events and the shift to online delivery of all courses at our university, we have opted to cancel one editathon (Diversity in Comics) and have converted the last two to be a completely online format (Celebrating the 19th Amendment and Art+Feminism). We would like to redirect some of the funds we would have spend on food and childcare to mailing supplies and postage in order to send prizes to participants who complete a bingo card or make substantial edits. Here is our updated budget for the entire series of editathons.
- Food=$300
- Childcare=$150
- Prizes/Swag=$150
- Mailing Supplies=$50
- Postage=$200
Request approved
editHello ActionableIdeas, thanks for putting your request here. I'm really sorry for the challenges you have to face over COVID-19, but glad that you will organize your events online. I have approved the budget change request! Take care, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:33, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
Extension Request
editToday is officially the last day of our grant. Due to extenuating circumstances related to COVID-19, we have been unable to receive and pay for the mailing supplies and postage we added to our grant in April in order to pivot to online events. Is it possible to extend the grant to June 1 to give us time to pay for these items? ActionableIdeas (talk) 20:15, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- @ActionableIdeas: Hello Angela, and thanks for reaching out. Your extension request is approved until June 1st, with your final report due on July 1st. The COVID-19 pandemic has been throughly disruptive, so please let us know if you need additional time to complete your activities or reporting and we will be happy to grant it. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:03, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the extension and offer of additional time, if needed. It turns out we need it. Could we have an additional month to complete the transactions? Thank you for your understanding and consideration. ActionableIdeas (talk) 13:41, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
