Report accepted edit

Hi, Zeetendra and Biplab Anand, thank you for submitting this final report and your expense documentation. My apologies for how long it has taken us to review them. I have reviewed the expense documentation and emailed you with a few follow-up questions; after we settle those I anticipate being able to accept the expense report.

I have also reviewed this final report and am accepting it now, with some comments and questions for reflection below. Once I accept the expense documentation, this grant will be complete!

Comments and Questions

  1. Congratulations on hosting such a successful WLE in 2018! Thank you for sharing the finalist images; they are all incredibly beautiful. Thank you also for sharing images from the outreach events and the felicitation program. It was really fun to be able to see those "behind the scenes" photos! It almost felt like we were there with you :-)
  2. In what ways did offline communication help the team work well together and meet its goals? Please share any insights that you think might be helpful to some of our other grantees.
  3. You noted that you expected more usage of the photos on Wikimedia projects. I just checked on GLAMorous and it looks like you have 55% usage of your quality images and almost 14% usage of all images, which is great! In general, have you thought about ways to increase usage in the future if you want to?
  4. You mentioned that in the future you'd focus on getting more quality images into Commons. Would that be a focus of the contest (for instance, trying to recruit more professional photographers or encourage quality images in other ways), or of an upload session, or both?

Many thanks for all the hard work you put into this grant. We appreciate you sharing what you learned with WMF and the community, and welcome any further things you'd like to share!

Thanks LSmith (WMF) for your valuable Comments and Questions
  1. Thanks for the appreciation.
  2. Well, Organizing team meeting and discussion is essential to track the contest progress. That way we can find our strength and weaknesses. Our discussion is mostly focused on how to bring new photographer to the team and motivate them to upload their images to Wikimedia Commons. We channelized our previous connection with the photographers and achieved our goals.
  3. Uploading photos to Wikimedia Commons is one task but using them into the Wikipedia article is another task. I am pretty much aware of that and conscious to integrate images to Wiki articles. Well, a photo edit-a-thon can help to increase the usage of uploaded images via WLE.
  4. Well, we already have 15000+ images uploaded through the WLE Contest. We should have to focus on getting Quality images rather than getting tons of images of same places. For Quality images you have to rely on Professional photographers and experience Wikimedians. Thanks--Biplab Anand (Talk) 03:26, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for these detailed and thoughtful responses, Biplab Anand! I will keep an eye out for your response to my email about the expense documentation. Warmly, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 22:14, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
