Kind reminder edit

Dear Morgan,

this is a kind reminder to complete the review of this report! -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:52, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Magioladitis! Thank you for the ping. I'll be sure to note that your final report has been submitted. If you haven't already done so, please send the documentation of expenses to grantsadmin wikimedia.org. Due to the high volume of open grant reports it may additional time for us to review them, but once we receive your expenses the User Group will be back in compliance with WMF reporting requirements before we complete our review of your report. Thanks as always for your swift response! Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 16:48, 2 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Comments from WMF edit

Hi, Magioladitis, thank you for submitting this final report and expense documentation. I have reviewed and accepted the expense documentation, and completed a preliminary review of this report. Here are some initial comments and questions:

  1. Congratulations on another successful WLE and on exceeding all the goals you set! And a hearty congratulations to the finalist who got 15th place in the international contest — that's a wonderful accomplishment!
  2. Please update the report to include a link to the category on Commons with all the photos from Wiki Loves Earth in Greece 2018.
  3. Could you provide a little more detail about the list of images with area codes? Many grantees struggle to get photos from contests used in Wiki projects, so we're always looking to understand things other grantees have done that have been successful.

Looking forward to your responses, and to helping you wrap up this grant! Warmly, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 22:26, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

LSmith (WMF) thanks for the kind words! I added a link to commons:Category:Images from Wiki Loves Earth 2018 in Greece. I think Geraki can reply to the third bullet. -- Magioladitis (talk) 22:32, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for adding that link, Magioladitis, the photos are gorgeous! (Seeing the results from WLE contests is one of my favorite things!) I'll keep an eye out for a response to the third bullet from Geraki. Warmly, LSmith (WMF) (talk) 01:08, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi LSmith (WMF), we've found that a small marathon/contest for using the photos in wiki projects is very helpful [1], and even more helpful is providing to the users a list of photos by area (id): https://w.wiki/3Jq We create that list with a small non-editing bot that traverses all the photos, gets the related area ID from the included template (filled in the uploading), and creates a CSV list. From that we create a nice two columns sorted table with the photos and the area IDs pointing to the associated Wikidata item. This year we will try to do it better, including the label instead of just the ID. In this way users don't need to look through random photos to find uncovered areas. -Geraki TL 07:52, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Report accepted edit

Hi, Geraki and Magioladitis, thank you for that explanation of how you encourage people to use the photos in articles. I am now accepting this report; congratulations, this grant is complete!

Thank you for all the hard work you put into it, and for sharing what you learned with WMF and the community. We welcome additional information you'd like to provide at any point!
