Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

Hi Touzrimounir and Ovva olfa, and thanks for your proposal for this Wikipedian in Residence project at the National Archives in Tunisia. I have few questions and comments I'd like you to respond to when you're able:

Dear I JethroBT (WMF) you find below our answers in bold about the project:
  • Thanks for uploading some examples of past work with the Archives. Some of these examples look very good in terms of encyclopedic value and they would yield strong benefits to improving articles specific to Tunisian biographies and history.
  • I have some concerns about the copyright and attribution used for some of the images you've pointed to. For instance, under File:Gouvernement_Hédi_Nouira_1.jpg or File:Mohammed Gammoudi 2.jpg, I expected to find the newspaper or source the photo came, the year the photo was published, and the author to be listed as the photographer (if one is provided, or the news agency itself). Instead, these scans and others are listed as your own work. Although you scanned and uploaded these files, the images are not your own work in terms of copyright ownership. Unless this information can be provided, the copyright state of these photos is not clear, and they may be deleted from Commons. I also note that while some of the example images from the National Archives have the public domain template (e.g. File:Journal l'action 1970.jpg, others do not. I don't want to see you or others have to do a lot of hard work in scanning and uploading public domain images only to have them deleted, as this can be really frustrating to deal with. What will you do in in this project to ensure the images you upload to Commons will have the correct information?
thanks for your question, this photo was uploaded in 2015 I was a new user of wikimedia and I haven't a big experience about copyright, as part of this project we will only upload documents in the public domine and we will identified the source the photo came, the year the photo was published, and the author to be listed as the photographer if evailbale, also in all documents you will find a template Template:National Archives of Tunisia
  • You've noted that you'd like to engage with students at the workshops you're planning. Can you describe what ways you will invite or otherwise reach out to students to let them know about these events?
the last year we have organised a wikipedia education project with the Higher Institute of Documentation of Tunis with the University teacher Mohamed Dhifallah ( he is also a wikipedia user from 2008), we will contact him to organize a workshop in the archive or the university about GLAM and this project
  • Given that you'd like train volunteers and work with staff at the National Archives, the number of participants in this project will be much higher than the two of you. Can you provide an estimate about the number of staff and students you might be working with related to your workshops and day-to-day during this project?
In the archive there are a big staff but if we want to achieve our goals we will work only with two or three members from the archive, also we will provide a table about our work, day-to-day, with students it will be only a workshop about the project or edit-a-thon

Let me know if I can clarify any of my questions further. Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 22:29, 14 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request to extend the end date of the grant edit

Dear I JethroBT (WMF)

I request if possible, to change the end date of the grant until the december 31,I need two more weeks to close the grant, thank you in advance Mounir Touzri (talk) 18:22, 12 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Touzrimounir: Hey Mounir, thanks for the update. I will approve this request, but please be aware that you need to make these sorts of requests during the course of your grant, and not well after the deadline has passed. We know that delays can come up in projects, and that these delays can be difficult to predict when writing your grant applications. As such, you're always welcome to let us know if you need more time when these situations arise, even if it's just before the end of your grant. Otherwise, it can be difficult for us and others interested in your work to know when a project is expected to be completed. More importantly, not reporting by your end date (or letting us know you need more time) can affect funding decisions we make. In the future, please be sure to contact us right away, before your deadline, should you believe you need more time to complete your project or report. Thanks for your work so far with the National Archives, and I look forward to reviewing your efforts. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:39, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Touzrimounir, please note that your final report and receipts are now due on 30 January 2018. -- Best, JTud (WMF), Grants Administrator (talk) 20:10, 14 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
