Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Suyash Dwivedi/Hindi Wikipedia Conference, 14-15 January 2017 at Bhopal (India)/Report

Discussion edit

Hello Suyash.dwivedi,

Thank you for this grant report, and thank you for your patience as we review. From what I have read this seemed like a successful event in gathering old and new editors involved with the Hindi community, and it was a good opportunity for you all to discuss and set a focus for future projects. Despite the ambitious targets you set, we hope that your community is in a better place to establish more realistic goals. And we always enjoy seeing Wikipedia's anniversary celebrated around the world! Before we approve this report, we have a couple questions: How many new editors were you expecting at first and have you followed-up with them since this conference? How would you plan to continue engaging them to develop their editing skills and confidence? What are the next steps in your discussions with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya Bhopal in moving forward with WEP? Can you say more about the 'paradigm shift' for Hindi Wikipedia as a result of this meeting? It sounds very serious indeed!

Lastly, we encourage you to use the remaining funds from this grant towards a new Rapid Grant submission; or, we request a way for these funds to be used by the community by providing a new budget on this talk page for a program officer to review and approve. You can find more information on this page. Please contact grantsadmin@ wikimedia dot org to notify us how the remaining funds should be used, or if you have any further questions.

Looking forward to your responses! Thank you again for your work for the Hindi community and the movement. Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 23:12, 16 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello MJue (WMF),

This is my response regarding the queries -- Suyash Dwivedi (talk) 09:12, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • How many new editors were you expecting at first and have you followed-up with them since this conference?

Please go through this link statistics , since January 2017 we are doing monthly one event so that we can engage them to contribute in Wikipedia for example in February we invited them to Sanskrit Sansthanam Bhopal for a workshop on 4th February ,again on 23rd march We had an interaction with them Sanskrit Sansthan Bhopal. We are donig small meetups on important days like recently we did small workshop on how to create account on wikipedia on International Womens day .We have created Whatsapp group and keep discussing about what's happening in Hindi wikipedia etc.

  • How would you plan to continue engaging them to develop their editing skills and confidence?

We are encouraging tham to go to nearby events going on city to look at the opportunity to make new articles, like small group participated in 'Guided Walk to Bhoj Wetland' organised by EPCO (Govt. of Madhya Pradesh) .Whatsapp group having senior wikipedians who helps tham to clear any doubts

  • What are the next steps in your discussions with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya Bhopal in moving forward with WEP?

Since last 3 months we are regularly conducting programs at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya but due to some administrative reshuffle at the University like Changing of the vice chancellor in coming month and some monetary constraint of the university since they are experiencing lack of staff still we are conducting regular workshops at the University. The talks about WEP will resume after the new chancellor takes charge however we have acquired their syllabus and working on it.

  • Can you say more about the 'paradigm shift' for Hindi Wikipedia as a result of this meeting? It sounds very serious indeed!

Thousands of educated people of India, specially in central and north india hindi speaking belt ,contribute to the English wiki but not on Hindi wiki. The Reason for this is that Higher education like Engineering ,Medical, Economics, Science or Commerce in India is available only in English.Atal University wants to make higher education in almost all streams available in Hindi, and seeks help from Hindi Wikipedia for enhancing their course content .it is expected that this may radically change the education system of central and north India.but since it will be a very long and time taking process ,we are taking the first step towards it.

Soon We are going to conduct workshop in near future, according to university syllabus where we will be utilizing remaining funds.

Report accepted contingent on remaining funds edit

Thank you for responding and for providing data from your event, Suyash.dwivedi. It's great that you recognize this gap in Hindi Wikipedia and the potential for volunteers to contribute in these projects--we will be interested to see how the education programs can be integrated this into the curriculum. Please keep us updated about your progress with the university and WEP.

We will accept this report contingent on your request for the remaining funds. We suggest that you submit a new Rapid Grant proposal, which should include the following information:

  1. A budget outlining how the remaining funds will be used, including the total amount of remaining funds you will use for your activities.
  2. A brief description of the mission-aligned activities you will do with the funds and an explanation about how these activities are related to the Wikimedia mission.
  3. Please include a start date and a completion date for your activities. The start date and completion date should each include a day month, and year.

Reporting requirements will be set based on the project scope, but we would still request documentation of expenses. Please ping us at rapidgrants at wikimedia dot org by 30 April with your new submission, and a program officer will review your request. We will then mark this report accepted.

Thank you again for your work! Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 21:43, 30 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
