Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Suyash Dwivedi/Hindi Wikipedia Conference, 14-15 January 2017 at Bhopal (India)

Hi Suyash.dwivedi. Thank you for this grant request and patience as WMF was closed the last week of December. We are generally supportive of this request, but would like to have the following clarifications before approving:

1. Please provide a more detailed budget. For example, how many people will you be covering travel for? What is the cost per person for food?
2. It would be great to think more about your measures of success. What would a successful conference look like to you? For people to learn new skills? To discuss and resolve specific issues in the community? To start new projects? To create and implement a plan for increasing the quality of articles? To implement an education program within a certain timeframe after the conference? Each of your main goals should have an associated measure of success to help understand if you met that goal or not.
3. The proposal states that you are already engaged with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya Bhopal-India on a monthly basis. How will you use this conference to develop the program?

Dear,this is going to be first such event in last 2 years and first after meeting of hindi wikipedians with wikimedia officials at Mohali.We all are inexperienced and may not be sure what exactly to do.But surely this conference will set the course for the coming ones, and will enable us to present more concrete proposals in future.henceforth we are trying to answer your quarries as listed below.

What would a successful conference look like to you?

• We will categorize all uncategorized pages (~3500) and uncategorized categories (~600) left incomplete in hindi wikipedia.(Elaborated below)
• Issues regarding Wikivoyage and wikisource would be sorted out (Elaborated below)
• As per previous Hindi wiki Sammelan discussions and during WikiConference India 2016 with Asaf Bartov(WMF) (here (Hindi)) ,to conduct 5 meetings per year,this is the first in line,we are hopeful for the next
• Since the ABVHVV is hindi university with many writers (books) as senior faculty ,we are expecting about 10 new wikipedia editors,what they need is proper training in wikipedia platform,which we are going to provide.

For people to learn new skills?

• A few of the admins,rollbackers and other senior members of hindi wikipedia are also coming in this conference so local wikipedians (Bhopal) are looking forward to learn new skills like AWB etc

To discuss and resolve specific issues in the community? Hindi wikipedians have been working for last 2 months already on Wikivoyage project,it would be made independent this month following this conference ,where prevailing issues would be thoroughly discussed. we will ensure it to mature and come in mainstream . Wikipedian Satdeep is already working on wikisource and under his guidance , others could join him proactively in this conference so that it could gain desired momentum.

To start new projects?

Our main focus would be on completing pending projects with issues (like Wikivoyage and wikisource,as discussed above),any proposal for new projects will be discussed in the conference ,though Wikiproject “on this day” which is dormant for last six months,we will discuss on ways and means to activate the above and will try to finalize the content to be published for at least 1 month .

To create and implement a plan for increasing the quality of articles?

In this conference we will certainly go for implementing a plan for increasing the quality of articles But we'll start with tasks which are important and can be done in shorter time span. We'll concentrate on Maintenance:Hindi wikipedia has 642 uncategorized Categories.3511 uncategorized pages.We will target to eliminate/minimise them in this conference.

To implement an education program within a certain timeframe after the conference?

Since We are organizing this conference in the premises of a ABVH university itself ,with which,formalization of the terms and conditions  of “Volunteer MOU” as suggested by Tighe,on Education/Engagement  of university students/staff is underway,timeframe for the education program will also be discussed. ===============(3) =====================

How will you use this conference to develop the program?

As you can see here (and in Hindi) our previous activities and engagements with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi Vishwavidyalaya Bhopal, we have convinced the authorities for launching pilot project with yearly calendar activities with wikipedia community but we have restrained ourself from engaging formally until this conference (where we are looking forward for community feedback ,suggestions and involvement).
