Hi SuperHamster, thanks for this WLM proposal for activities in the United States. The proposal looks great, but I did have one clarifying question. There appear to be many judges for this event, and I'm accustomed to seeing judging panels to about 7-10 people at most for WLM or other contests. What are some reasons that a panel of as many as 25 judges are needed in this case? Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 21:55, 24 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi @I JethroBT (WMF): Thanks for the review! You're actually pretty spot-on; in 2017 we had 10 individual judges. You can see our 2017 judging process here. I've listed 25 in the grant as an upper-bound to leave us some flexibility. In 2017, we had three rounds of judging with six judges each, and the judges aren't necessarily the same between each round, meaning that we could have theoretically had 18 distinct judges. We are also keen to having more than six judges per round (especially the earlier rounds) due to the sheer number of photos needed to judge, as well as wanting to get more individuals evolved with WLM-US. That being said, I'm not opposed to reducing the number of shirts for judges down to 18 or so since 25 is very unlikely. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 21:10, 25 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
@SuperHamster: Thanks for this explanation, I now understand you're pulling from a pool of possible judges to make a panel of six for a given round. If the goal is reduce the reviewing load on judges, I think that is reasonable. The volunteer work involved with judging is acceptable for a T-shirt given the eligibility guidelines, so I don't think it's necessary to adjust the number of T-shirts requested here. That was the only question I had, so I'm happy to approve this grant proposal. Thanks! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 14:08, 27 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Extension request edit

Hi @I JethroBT (WMF): Hope you're doing well, and happy holidays! I was wondering if we could get an extension for this grant to end February 3, 2019. We still need to order shirts and ship them out for our winners - unfortunately not all winners have their email enabled on-wiki, so I have been trying to track them down (we'll be moving forward soon with orders without them). Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:54, 23 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
