Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Reem Al-Kashif/Wiki Science Competition 2017 Egypt
Special:MyLanguage/Hello Reem Al-Kashif, thank you for your proposal and for organizing this contest. I had a couple of follow up questions for you.
- It's great that you are assembling a local jury of experienced photographers. Can you also tell us about the scoring system you have in place for the contest?
- Do you have a list of images you are hoping to acquire for this contest?
Please let us know and we can proceed with next steps. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 21:03, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello
I'm sorry for the awful delay, many wiki projects are happening at the same time. I believe the jury we will use will be the same we have had for other wiki photography competitions. I will ask them to provide their scoring system. We do have a lot of images we are hoping to acquire, particularly astronomy and wildlife pictures since we have partners who will give workshops in those two areas. They will also promote the competition on their platforms making it more likely that we will get the images we are targeting. --Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 19:00, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Approval
editHello Reem Al-Kashif, I am going to go ahead and approve this grant as we approach the end of the year. Please make sure to respond to the questions above so we can finalize next steps.
Request for Extension
editHello,
Thank you for approving our grant. We have been waiting for the grant to get approved so that we can hold the competition, so we haven't started the competition yet (and haven't received the funds and have no expenses to report). We are going to start on February 15th and end on March 15th (it is the same duration we requested the grant for but different dates).--Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 18:55, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Approval of Extension
editHello Reem Al-Kashif, thank you for requesting for an extension here. I have gone ahead and adjusted your grant dates on the proposal and am approving your request. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 20:34, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Request for a Budget Increase
editHello, Over the past few weeks, we were on a workshop to promote the competition and give people more knowledge on science photos. Today, we held the workshop and I dare say it was a great success. I will receive the pictures soon and will include them in the report.
The only problem is that the venue we booked increased it's rental fees a lot over the past couple of weeks. When I applied for the grant in December 2017, it was more or less at the stated price range. I didn't see this increase coming, so unfortunately there is a 2,117.6 EGP increase in the venue fees.
The unstable prices also affected the video recording category. The person we hired requested a high price for videotaping, so we had to just go with photographing for 1k as stated in the grant.
To make it a bit easier, kindly find below a price comparison. The receipts were sent by email.
Is it possible that we modify this before you send the grant funds so that it is all sent in one go?
Price Comparison
Header text | As stated in the grant (December 2017) | Actual paid funds (February 2018) |
---|---|---|
Reserving Lecture hall in the Greek Campus for the workshops | 2000 EGP | 4150 EGP |
Snacks | 500 EGP | 467.6 EGP |
Reserving a video Camera for documenting the Event and uploading to commons | 1000 EGP | 1000 EGP (but photographing not videotaping) |
Total | 3500 EGP | 5,617.6 EGP |
5,617.6 – 3500 = 2,117.6 EGP
Approval of budget increase
editHello Reem Al-Kashif, thank you for updating us on the budget. I have approved your budget increase and we will follow up accordingly. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 18:40, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Request for extending the competition's deadline
editDear all, Looking at the the niche nature and novelty of this competition in Egypt, we still haven't had a lot of contributions from people. Also the organizations we contacted to upload their photos still haven't uploaded the pictures. We were wondering if we can extend the deadline of the competition to March 31st instead of 15th? In that period we hope to be able to spread the news about the competition even more. Kamal was even considering paid ads on Facebook or so. We are also hoping to be able to get the organizations we are in contact with to upload the pictures they have eventually.--Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 14:13, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
Approval of extension
editHello Reem Al-Kashif, sorry for the delay in responding to this request. I am approving your extension. I hope you've already seen some increase in the uploads. Do let me know if you need more time. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 18:09, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- No worries at all, WJifar (WMF). Some people did upload some great pictures:) Thank you for your message. Right now, we are making sure all of the judges are ready to decide the winners. When should I present the report? Now or after the winners are announced?--Reem Al-Kashif (talk) 18:59, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Reem Al-Kashif, your report is due on April 30th. Hopefully, that's after the winners are announced. But if it's not then let me know when that might be and we can evaluate. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 14:08, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
