Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Bukky658/Hackathon 2022 Nigeria/Kwara State
Thank you for applying to host a local meetup at the Wikimedia Hackathon! We are so grateful you took the time to put together a proposal, and are highly impressed by your work. We have some questions regarding your application. Please address these questions as soon as possible.
- There is another local meetup application for a community in Kwara State. Would you be open to combining with their local meetup?
- The local meetup grants cannot be used to sponsor swag, prizes, or certificates, in order to keep the experience standard and fair for other participants around the world. You can however use the funds to print out Hackathon artwork or posters for during the event. Can you adjust your itemized total?
- This grant is to support Hackathon contributions from technical contributors. This is not for an edit-athon. How will you ensure this event supports the technical growth of the community?
- Would you be interested in having a WMF staff member attend or support the event? (This will not affect your application).
Our regards,
The Hackathon Local Meetup Committee
Response to the questions asked by the the Hackathon Local Meetup Committee
editThank you for responding to my proposal HLepp (WMF). So sorry for my late response, I didn't receive a notification for your comment.
1) Yes, I and my team will are willing and open to combine with the other team mentioned community in Kwara State .
2)I have reviewed the proposal and made necessary adjustment to the resources needed and total budget. Kindly see the update on the grants page.
3) This hackathon will onboard and build a community of new technical contributors in Kwara State who will become code creators, maintainers, designers, and technical writers on Mediawiki to help collect and organize knowledge and make it accessible to people; collaborate and manage software projects on Phabricator; carry out Wikimedia technical documentation on Wikitech; and test latest coding and software changes on test Wikipedia, among other things. It will expose them to new project ideas centered on improving tools, fixing bugs, and producing more technical documentation, all of which will contribute to the community's technical growth both locally and globally.
4) I am willing to have a WMF staff member attend or support the event alongside my team members, in order to further enlighten the participants about the technical aspects of the community and answer relevant questions posed by the participants during the hackathon.

Committee Decision
editThank you for applying to host a local meetup at the Wikimedia Hackathon. We are so grateful you took the time to put together a proposal, but unfortunately we will not be able to fund your individual proposal at this time. As we discussed, the other Kwara State local meetup would be excited for you and your team to join their organizing process. This merger was a condition of acceptance, because we thought both meetups would be stronger if combined.
Please do not let this decision dissuade you from applying for another Rapid Grant in the future! The Hackathon grant process is new and has limited resources, making this a highly competitive proposal process. We strongly encourage you to consider applying again. There are many other grants opportunities that are open or will open soon. --HLepp (WMF) (talk) 00:43, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
