Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Anasskoko/Audio and Video Edithathon in Wikimedia Commons

Comments from DSaroyan (WMF) edit

Dear Anasskoko and Musa Vacho77, thanks again for submitting this interesting grant application. I have reviewed it and I have a few questions and requests.

  • What's your past experience in running similar video and audio projects? Do you have enough experience in the team to perform the mentioned training sessions and support the community members?
  • There is another similar proposed grant project currently under our review: Audio Files in Wikimedia Commons. Do you think there is any overlap between your and this projects?
  • How will you make sure that participants edit after the project?
  • Given the project specifics and that currently there are different events happening in different parts of Nigeria, we will not fund any accommodation expenses for the participants. Please organize this project for your local community members. For those who are outside of your location, please run online training sessions. Please remove any accommodation expenses and related transportation costs.
  • Please also reduce the number of T-shirts and other swags. You can offer notepads and other small swags, but please offer T-shirts and caps to the top contributors only. Kindly make the corresponding changes to the budget and update the total requested amount in USD and NGN.
  • Please confirm that you and Musa Vacho77 will be co-signatories for the grant agreement on behalf of your group.
  • Also, I'd like to learn more about the status of your group. Is it already an approved Wikimedia affiliate?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:21, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for finding it very interesting in reviewing our proposal again, the following are the answers to your questions and the correction made successfully base on the bulletin.
  • In the past we have successfully carried out Online Hausa Wikipedia, which deals with video uploading, and as photographers we have the experience of video and audio equalization and so on, we have successfully uploaded several audio and Video files into Wikimedia Commons the same and through that process which we have mentioned in the proposal page. So we have an outstanding experience in that.
  • For the similar project you shared I think the only similarity there is about Audio, we want to train editors on Audio and Video, while their own target is Audio only with the intention of providing language audios on Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. I don't think there's an overlapping. This is another angle in Wikimedia Commons were editors don't pay attention on, that is Audio and Video, while audio is required in Wikitionary, Wikidata and Articles needing audio.
  • Well, to some extend we are quite sure they will contribute, because they request this to me as I made mention in the proposal page, though participants at times neglect full participation some times due to their personal reasons, so we will stay in torch with them to motivate and solve the lapses they will experience in participating.
  • For Accommodations expenses it has been removed, for the related expenses to transportation, it has been decreased. But online training data cost increases a little bit.
  • T-shirts and caps for top contributors noted! The number 50 and the amount 89,000 is for T-shirts, caps and notebook, Okay let me say 10 T-shirts, 10-caps and 30 notebook. For decreasing the accommodation expenses the total in NG and USD updated both on table and probox.
  • Yes I and Miss Vacho77 will be co-signatories for the grant agreement on behalf of the User Group.
  • The User Group is not yet recognized as an Affiliate, criterion met, awaiting Affcom review and approval, we have to reach a complete year for the Affcom to see the development and the impact we bring, worthy for the User Group before getting a recognition, that's why we are boosting our activities both online and offline base on our subjective goals, and what the User Group is all about.
