Grants talk:Project/Modjou/Wiki Kouman 2019 en Côte d'Ivoire (Local language in Côte d'Ivoire)/Midpoint

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

Hi Modjou and Mognissan, and thanks very much for this thorough midpoint report on Wiki Kouman 2019 en Côte d'Ivoire. Here are my comments and questions:

  • Thanks for uploading and providing clear links to materials and forms you have used for communication. The flyers you've prepared look stellar! The imagery you prepared is compelling and does a great job of reflecting the thematic nature of the project around local languages in Côte d'Ivoire.
  • I also want to note that you've done a great job in coordinating communication around the workshops and the project generally. Encouraging workshop participants to promote your project in their own channels and communities is an effective way to reach other local language speakers. Do you expect to recruit additional workshop participants?
  • You have already made great progress towards some of your project goals, such as training at least 12 participants on publishing on the Wiktionary and knowing how to use a voice recording software, recruiting new contributors, and creating or improving article entries. These are all important areas that support your project goal to document local languages.
  • It looks like the progress on audio recordings has been slower than expected, and that is understandable given the challenges you described with finding Bété speakers to participate, and difficulty finding words or examples in both Bété and Dioula languages because of a lack of written sources in these native languages.
  • It's great to see there was interest from 42 applicants to participate in the workshop. When you were reviewing applicants, were there other factors you used to select participants besides their motivation, ethnic background, and level of knowledge about Wikimedia projects? Are other factors outside the form questions that may limit participation, such as the amount of space where the workshop takes place?

Thanks for the update on the progress in your workshops so far! This midpoint report is formally approved, but please respond to my question above, and feel free to let me know if you need clarification on any of my feedback. We are working are gathering approvals for your requested budget increase, and will contact you when this has been finalized or if any clarification is needed. Hi I JethroBT (WMF),
  • Yes, we want to have new participants. We hope to be able to attract more people through the second flyers we made using the same communication strategy.
  • Indeed, by departing from the 12-person limit that we imposed because of the funding limit, we can add two other factors:
  1. the space we occupy does not allow us to exceed 15 participants if we use the tables to work.
  2. Some people could not be contacted and others had unforeseen events that did not allow them to participate.
Thank you again for the trust you have placed in us to lead this project. We are waiting for your answers on funding. Best regards.Modjou (talk) 21:19, 29 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
