Endorsements edit

Endorsed -- As the other organizer of this project, I want to say a few words as well. I am glad we are doing this again. This photo contest is one of the few projects in the country that engage people directly in exploring and documenting our cultural heritage, and certainly the only one at such a large scale. There are a few novelties compared to last year, especially the geographical coordinates and the inclusion of archaeological monuments. Taking photos of all types of monuments will make their conservation state known and will commit them to memory for future generations. Since I have written a couple of articles on Wikipedia on local monuments, I can say that the number of images illustrating them is still insufficient. Hopefully, this project will alleviate this shortage and will determine more people to write about them.--TotalAnarchy (talk) 16:31, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Endorse. This is an important project that has the potential to improve the knowledge about the cultural heritage in Moldova and to provide an educational activity for future participants. --Sîmbotin (talk) 18:48, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Endorsment from Turbojet (talk) edit

Monuments are an important part of a country's culture, defining its identity. Knowledge of them leads to better understanding between peoples and a higher level of culture among Wikipedia users. I believe these justify supporting the project. --Turbojet (talk) 13:20, 30 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

1. Why the proposal is important for your community and why you think the strategies chosen will achieve the results that are expected?

As the way readers consume content changes, multimedia becomes ever more important to Wikipedia to remain relevant.

2. Could you highlight any aspects that you think are particularly well developed: for instance, the strategies and activities proposed, the levels of community engagement, outreach to underrepresented groups, addressing knowledge gaps, partnerships, the overall budget and learning and evaluation section of the proposal, etc?

The project implements a well-verified recipe and has a very detailed and realistic list of objectives and evaluation metrics.

3. Could you highlight if the proposal focuses on any interesting research, learning or innovation, etc. Also if it builds on learning from past proposals developed by the individual or organization, or other Wikimedia communities?

As said before, WLM is a well-know recipe and this proposal includes learnings from past editions of the Moldovan Wiki Love contents.

4. Do you think the proposal is going to contribute in any way to important developments around specific Wikimedia projects or Movement Strategy?

The proposal is an incremental step in the neverending process of documenting areas of the world that are not well covered in mainstream sources.

5. Do you think if the proposal is coherent in terms of the objectives, strategies, budget and expected results (metrics)?

Yes, it has a very detailed and realistic list of objectives and evaluation metrics based on past editions of Wiki Loves contests in Moldova.

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF) edit

Hello Gikü, and thanks for your proposal supporting WLM in Moldova. Because the Wikimedians of Romania and Moldova User Group maintains a General Support Fund, and that we generally do not provide additional funds to organizations through Rapid that maintain General Support Funds, this proposal would normally be ineligible for funding. User groups receiving General Support Funds can reallocate their funding or request additional funds from the Foundation to support new opportunities as needed. However, the user group's General Support Fund is focused on a highly specific project focused on training, meaning that integrating WLM into the General Support Fund would not necessarily be straightforward or practical.

For these reasons, I am willing the grant an exception to fund this through Rapid Funds on an individual basis. However, we will not be able to support this arrangement in the future. For future requests, I recommend considering two options:

  • if the user group is involved with organizing or preparing the event, please plan to request funding through the user group's General Support Fund.
  • if the user group is not involved with organizing the event, an independent individual can request funding through Rapid Funds.

Let me know if you have any questions. We will proceed with funding the request, and thanks very much for supporting WLM in Moldova this year! I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:31, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi @I JethroBT (WMF): thank you very much! As it currently stands, WMROMD is not involved in any way in this project; I am co-organizing it myself with my co-national User:TotalAnarchy. I tend to choose applying individually because I am the only member of WMROMD from Moldova, and I prefer to avoid banking-related bureaucracy that would arise if I would apply as WMROMD. In any case, thank you for being considerate; for the future I am sure we can work something out within the UG for projects in Moldova. Best, Gikü (talk) 17:40, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
