Follow-up Questions from ESEAP Regional Funds Committee and Programme Officer edit

Hello @Lady Kagaga,

Thank you for your interest in the rapid fund programme.

Your grant application has moved from the grant eligibility phase to grant review phase and it is undergoing the review process.

Would you be able to provide responses to the following questions? Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards, Jacqueline on behalf of the ESEAP Funds Committee

Thank you for putting in another grant to continue your project. I am also attaching relevant links shared in your final report so that it can be more widely accessible by the community:

(side note: would you be able to make this dashboard accessible by the public? Thank you.)

1) As this will be the second time running a similar event (with an updated theme), how would you increase the outreach of the event so that more people could sign up?

2) Through these offline activities, how do you plan to build up a community of wikimedians who can continue to contribute through editing or supporting future offline events like these in future?

3) What were some budget adjustments you made between the first edition of the event and this second edition?

4) As there are plans to continue organising similar activities, are there plans to set up a meta page hosting links to the articles and photos produced and publications related to the project?

5) Are there potential areas of collaboration and support you may require from the Wikimedians of Japan User Group during the course of your project implementation?

Thank you. JChen (WMF) (talk) 04:17, 21 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello! @JChen (WMF)
Regarding private mode on outreach dashboard, we changed it to public. Sorry!
I answer your questions as below:

1) As this will be the second time running a similar event (with an updated theme), how would you increase the outreach of the event so that more people could sign up?

Changing the theme will give us wider result, I think.
Because citizens of Kaga City are proud of their each community or its local historical/cultural topics.
The theme of the last event was the disaster in Kaga city, and the next one we are planning is about culture brought from the Kitamae-bune, which is called Shinkansen in the sea, was important logistics service from the mid Edo era to the early Meiji era (1730s〜1900s) . The Kitamae-bune sailed from Osaka to Hokkaido over a period of several months. During the voyage, they stopped at ports in the Seto Inland Sea and the Sea of Japan coastline to conduct business of buying and selling. The Kitamae-bune carried/connected not only goods but also culture to various places. There was used to be a port for the Kitamae-bune and were used to be many Shipping wholesaler in Kaga.
The Kitamae-bune culture is preserved not only in Kaga, but in port towns in the Seto Inland Sea and the Sea of Japan coastline. Therefore, I expect that more people have an interest, especially people from the port area, Hashidate. And, we will organize wikipedia town workshops not only in weekend but also in weekday (daytime and evening) so that more people could sign up. In addition, we try to organize online participations for people who do not live in Kaga.

2) Through these offline activities, how do you plan to build up a community of wikimedians who can continue to contribute through editing or supporting future offline events like these in future?

We already held an additional Wikipedia learning circle in Katayamazu-Onsen(spa) area. We supported them (about ten participants) to research and to edit Wikipedia. They requested us to organize such an editing Wikipedia workshop in their area, because they had an interest when they knew about our past wikipediatown activities. During the circle, we didn't invite a special teacher because we now have basic knowledge based on our past activities.
We hope to be able to make a network among wikimedian leaders from each areas in Kaga city and build up a community of wikimedians.
We published one page through the extra workshop (2h x 4 days) :

They were so happy to edit and to publish the page on their important cultural heritage.:

3) What were some budget adjustments you made between the first edition of the event and this second edition?

We degreased a budget below.
- For making novelties (It was cheaper than estimate).
We added some new budgets below.
- For translation fee for event reports(Wikimedia diff and our web site)
- For snacks/drinks fee on the event day
Side note: Whole budgets in Japanese yen increased about 7.5 percents because of the weaker yen.

4) As there are plans to continue organizing similar activities, are there plans to set up a meta page hosting links to the articles and photos produced and publications related to the project?

We have never thought about it because we don't know how to use it. But a meta page seems to be important for us to continue similar activities widely.
Could you support us?

5) Are there potential areas of collaboration and support you may require from the Wikimedians of Japan User Group during the course of your project implementation?

To be honest, I don't understand User Groups very well.
If it is possible, we'd like to collaborate with the User Group to connect other projects on community archives and historical local culture specialized in Kitamae-bune, Minyo(Jappanese folk songs) and Matsuri(festivals). Our collaborator User:Araisyohei participates the Japan User Group, so we may talk to him about it. Lady Kagaga (talk) 03:03, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
