Grants talk:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Conference Fund/Mt Kenya Meta Innovation Week
WMF funding decision
editHi John,
Thank you for submitting a Conference Fund application. I appreciate your interest and work on this proposal.
The Conference and Event Funds program aims to provide funding and planning support to groups or organizations to host local or regional conferences that bring Wikimedians together for experience sharing, skill building, and networking. The focus of our work is to increase the diversity, reach, quality, and quantity of free knowledge through the Wikimedia projects, operated and designed by the Wikimedia Movement volunteers and communities around the world. We do that by aligning with the strategic direction and priorities of the Wikimedia movement.
I do acknowledge and appreciate the work that is being done in the Mt Kenya Innovations Hub for supporting young innovators in working towards Social impact. But our funding programs are committed to Wikimedia related projects. And if I understand it correctly, your proposal does not have a significant Wikimedia element to it, or engaging directly with Wikimedia communities.
Unfortunately, other than not being a conference, your project proposal does not align with our focus of work. As we do have technical and digital skill building aspect to our work and events, our goal is not to do so as an opportunity for 'digital job' search, and our work for free knowledge is trying to promote accurate, diverse and resource based information, and actually avoiding focusing on promoting brands and businesses.
Therefore I am sorry to tell you that we cannot fund your proposal.
I wish you and the Mt Kenya Innovations Hub luck with your future work. Best CAlmog (WMF) (talk) 23:20, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
