Correction to Expenditure Table

edit

Please note that I have corrected the expenditure table by deducting R 360.00 from the Contingencies line item which was duplicated elsewhere in the same category. I have also increased the deficit line item by this amount. Many thanks --Humetheresa (talk) 10:58, 3 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Humetheresa and Discott. Thank you for this report. We appreciate the efforts of the administrator, especially in terms of organizing the chapter's logistics, communicating regularly with chapter members, and engaging the Afrikaans community. We are also very excited that the chapter was able to run the editor survey. There is a lot of valuable information that can help inform community engagement and communications strategies going forward.

The report talks a lot about success in increasing awareness of the Wikimedia projects and providing support to the South African Wikimedia communities. We understand this is difficult to measure and you have made some attempts to quantify this through the increase in membership (from 4 to 16) and increase in awareness to about 33% of the editing community from 0 when the chapter started. Since it is hard to know exactly what progress has been made in these areas, it would be helpful to know what chapter/administrator activities specifically you think have most contributed to increase awareness and been of most support to the editing community. This will help articulate which activities should continue to be of focus and give all of us a better sense of how to understand the impact of these activities over time.

With the increased capacity brought about by the Administrator we were able to reach out to community members more frequently. This was done in a number of ways.

  • First of all we were able to be more active on our Facebook page (for the Chapter and individual projects)
  • We interacted with community members through various chat portals, more frequently the Afrikaans Geselshoekie as we were keen to reach out to Afrikaans editors.
  • We sent out weekly mails to members about the activities of the Chapter
  • Increased visibility of the Chapter through press statements to print, digital and voice media --Humetheresa (talk) 09:12, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please clarify what is meant by, "we have been aligned with current legislative requirements, and have had a far greater impact on the South African community as originally anticipated". Do you mean that by being in compliance with legal requirements, the chapter is able to have a greater impact on the editing community?

  • Wikimedia ZA was able to do some general housekeeping in this funding period which was important for future grant applications
  • Although this in itself did not influence our interaction with SA communities, we believe that one these administrative tasks were completed, we could focus solely on reaching out to community members as indicated above. --Humetheresa (talk) 09:12, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

We understand that applying for an APG is a challenging process. Can you let us know what specifically you found most difficult? This will help the team improve the process.

  • As a first time application for the APG, we found the most difficult task quantifying outcomes, which in our experience, is not always possible.
  • The APG support team was however very helpful in assisting us to address the shortcomings of our proposal --Humetheresa (talk) 09:12, 2 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

It would be great if you could endorse the learning patterns you noted as particularly useful (buying clicking on the "endorse" button).
