Grants talk:PEG/WM UA/Wiki Loves Earth 2015/Report

Hi Antanana, Ilya, and NickK. Thank you for this high quality grant report and congrats on organizing another successful Wiki Loves Earth! It's exciting to see that so many countries participated, especially new countries that have been able to organize subsequent contests as a result of their participation. All of your metrics around participants, new users, photos, and photo usage are very impressive!
- It sounds like having an International Coordinator was helpful in supporting the different countries, but you think it would be better in future to just divide the responsibilities among WMUA employees. Is this because there wasn't enough work for the coordinator or WMUA will have increase capacity next year?
- Every year the contest organization improves. Making sure there is consensus on the rules and timing will definitely be helpful next time!
- Did you do specific outreach to new countries beyond the Wikimania presentation or do you think the increase in number of participating countries is mostly due to the fact that WLE is becoming more well know?
Thank you again for such a great report and more importantly, for the time and effort taken to organize such a successful contest! As jury member in my volunteer capacity, I was really impressed with the jury process and all communication from the organizing team. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 04:24, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Alex and thank you for your feedback!
- This is mainly because WMUA has increased capacity (1.5 FTE) this year. We find that coordinating WLE is enough work for 0.5 FTE but we can distribute these tasks among our existing employees and save time we could have spent on the selection process and on training the new employee.
- We are planning to announce the rules and timing for 2016 within the next week or two, so we will definitely be clear this year.
- We did contact existing groups and networks (it worked particularly well with WikiArabia) before the event, and we are doing this in 2016 as well.
- And thank you for joining the WLE jury, we really appreciated your contribution! — NickK (talk) 02:32, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
