Proposed patterns

edit

Moved Tony's post here from the scope section (diff) I'm interested in preparing drafts of the following LPs, if people think they're sufficiently relevant and distinctive from existing LPs: Writing press releases; Writing English for google translation; Formulating measures of success for PEG projects; and Photography tutorial [can't think of name ... would draw on examples and reviewer comments from featured picture forums on Commons and en.WP]. Please do! These all sound like useful additions to me. As you create them, could you consider how well they seem to fit well into current categories, or if we should create one or two new categories for patterns like this? Revisiting the pattern categories is part of the revamp plan I started drafting yesterday. Cheers, Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 21:39, 13 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
BTW, I added these four to the new proposed patterns section of the project page. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 21:44, 13 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Jonathan. I've been unclear about what "endorsements" really mean, and why they're useful. They appear to be self-selected, so perhaps not representative; and some are added at very early stages of development (but are still displayed permanently). I'm unsure whether the endorsements are on the basis of perceived importance or perceived quality, or both.

The functional issue is when an LP should be marked for translation, and when an LP is ready to be recommended/linked to, by reviewers/staff at PEG applications, for example. What do you think about a more formal classification system in which you or other staff might routinely place and update a classification template that anyone could move up or down (hopefully with explanation)? Just off the top of my head: start class (for stubs and clearly patchy or incomplete drafts; class 3 (reasonably complete in structure, but needs copy-editing and/or filling out with more information, and needs further reviewing and feedback); class 2 (feedback given, approaching maturity); class 1 (ready for both translation and recommendation to Wikimedians). 12:21, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Category:Learning Pattern Library

edit

This category contains hidden wiki-code: "PLEASE DO NOT MARK THIS PAGE FOR TRANSLATION. It needs to be easy to update. Questions? Please post at Grants_talk:Learning_patterns/Project"

Please someone to explain reasons for this. Maybe this notice is outdated? Currently, some patterns is translated, and Category:Learning patterns also translated. And neded to make desigion about harmonisation of categories structure. @Jmorgan (WMF):?--Kaganer (talk) 15:08, 27 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Kaganer: you're right, the comment is outdated. When I was actively using that page to manage the development of the portal, I was concerned that the addition of translation markup would make it harder to do my work. But it's fine if you want to mark it for translation now. I'll remove the comment. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 00:00, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I now see you were talking about the category page. That is ALSO fine to mark for translation now. Jmorgan (WMF) (talk) 00:02, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
