Proposed participation edit
I am an active hactivist, member of Open Labs Hackerspace in Tirana, Albania and during the last two years I've organized and participated in different events related to free software, open knowledge, free speech etc. I am an Wikipedian contributor, I have started recently to work hard on the Wikidata project and also on Wikimedia Commons. I would like to get more involved and give my contribution as a volunteer for Wikimedia. During my participation at "FOSScamp Syros 2017" I will lead two workshops and also a meetup, all dedicated to the Wikimedia project. I will also participate in the other group project and work altogether with other participants in order to improve the Wikimedia content related to Syros island.
Goal and expected impact edit
As a result of my workshops the people who will participate will get all the necessary information on how to take 360' photos & how to add them in the Commons. Also I am going to explain to the participants how they can add multimedia materials generated from ground work using the Wikimedia Commons Android app & CommmonsLab app. As a result of this we can have more Wikimedia contributions using the mobile applications that offer you an other way to do this. Also many places in Syros will have articles in SQ Wikipedia and EN Wikipedia with geo-location and very high quality photos. The expectations from the workshops are:
- There will be 8-11 participants on each workshop.
- We will have around 100 photos uploaded using the mobile applications
- We will upload 12-16 from 360' photos.
Also in the long term, since most of the people who will join the workshop are not active users of the apps, this might raise the contributions since they will learn how to do this.
Budget breakdown edit
Here is a summary of my expenses to participate in the event. I tried to reduce the expenses as much as possible by sharing my accommodation with others and by taking a bus in the come back way instead of a plane, though the trip will be much longer. I will be traveling from Berlin (I have to be there on the parting day and since the cost of the palane is the same as the cost of the bus from Tirana to Athens, I will follow this route without impacting my traveling costs and I will also manage to be in time for the event this way)
- Travel (trip with plane from Berlin to Athens): € 54
- Travel (round trip with ferry from Pireaus to Syros and Syros to Pireaus): € 63
- Travel (trip with bus from Athens to Tirana): € 50
- Accommodation: € 15 per night x 7 nights = € 105
- Food: € 20 per day x 7 day = € 140
- Participation fee: € 40 (This is the link to the event page). This is a fee used by the organizers to cover all the logistics expanses for the whole event.
Other instructions edit
I won't need help with the booking since we will use shared spaces with other participants in order to reduce the costs of the accommodation. I would really need an advance disbursement. Since I'm still a student, this is necessary for me in order to cover all the expenses. I don't think I can make it on my own because of my very limited budget.
