I have about 10 years Wikipedia editing experience, mostly working on medical articles. I'm on the board of WikiProject Med Foundation. Yesterday, Friday 14th August, in a teleconference involving Jake Orlowitz, myself, the editor-in-chief of BMJ and BMJ's publications manager, BMJ firmly committed to providing a peer-review service for Wikipedia's medical content. This is the culmination of a process initiated by Lila Tretikov, WikiProject Med president Jacob de Wolff, Jake and me in a phone conference with BMJ just before Wikimania 2015.

As the Wikimedian who will be driving this, I would very much appreciate thoughts from the attendees of this STEM conference on the philosophical (epistemological) implications of this step, as well as practical, nuts and bolts advice about tools and methods to streamline the process.

Goal and expected impact

I hope to: (a) inspire other Wikipedians to collaborate with me and BMJ on this project (b) inspire others to initiate similar projects in other knowledge domains and (c) learn from the attendees' experiences in similar collaborations.

Anthony has put considerable time and effort into working with the British Medical Journal, and gaining their cooperation in peer-reviewing Wikipedia medical articles is a terrific accomplishment. The Science Conference would be a first-rate opportunity to interest a broader group who may help develop this collaboration, and having Anthony present would be very valuable. As a board member of both WikiProject Med Foundation and Wikimedia UK, I'd like to see his efforts supported, but I know that neither WPMF nor WMUK has a budget to offer him financial support. I understand that the Travel & Participation Support fund is aimed at "primarily non-Wikimedia events", but the Science Conference has a very broad base of organisation including multiple UK universities, Royal Societies and international institutes. I am happy to endorse Anthony's request. This is important work and the Science Conference will be a key event in bringing together people who improve science-related content on Wikipedia. The recent work with the BMJ needs showcasing and developing and this is a key opportunity for doing so. JFW (talk) 21:33, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

I concur with the previous comments — Anthony is making valuable contributions in the area of medicine, and the collaboration with the BMJ is a prime example thereof.
