Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Our project was successful and managed to meet the goals that were set.

All in all, the whole user group was happy with the project and called for more of such meet ups.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Using Wikipedia's recent Wikipedia Day 2017 as a theme for socializing for community members Successful Wikipedia Day is known worldwide to be Wikipedia's birthday and for all passionate Wikimedians, it is a day to commemorate the achievements of the free encyclopedia. The Wikimedia Ghana User Group took part in the worldwide celebrations while bringing together members, some of whom may never have met each other in person. The meetup helped members of the community bond better.
The event will also invite guests (STRATEGICALLY) whom the group deems as influencers and by spending time with us, can go back to their communities with an understanding of what Wikipedia and the Ghanaian community is about. Sucessful and exceeded expectation Apart from influencers invited, others seemed to have heard of the project and came even without the invitations. We managed to engage a larger audience than usual on social media as well. The aforementioned influencers seemed to have gained a lasting interest in the works of the Wikimedia Foundation.
The event intended to host fifteen (15) members of the User group and ten (10) influencers. The event hosted thirty-two (32) guests in total; nineteen (19) members and thirteen (13) influencers. This was likely due to some people coming with friends as well as hearing of the event from others.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? - Everything seemed to come together at the end, despite certain flaws during the planning stage. The presentation on the Wikimedia Foundation and Introduction to Wikipedia were the highlights of the day.
  • What did not work so well? - Some volunteers seemed to find their tasks in the planning stage either too menial or too daunting. Also, at the event, some people encountered problems while trying to create accounts in order to do some basic edits.
  • What would you do differently next time? - Ensure that there is backup internet service. Also, use more formalised vendors for some purchases. This is because some of the vendors I used did not have receipts available; an example was the baker of the cake.

Finances edit

Remaining funds edit

Do you have any remaining grant funds?

The funds remaining from this grant in the amount of US$32.49 were deducted from another grant payment for Grants:Project/Rapid/Arts+Feminism_2017_–_Accra.

I must first clarify that we recieved $10 less than the original amount we asked for, which was $244.52.

This means we recieved $234.52.

We have a balance of $32.49 remaining of the grant funds. We would wish to use the remaining funds for a new project.
