Project Goal edit

  1. Research on content gaps and recruitment of new editors/contributors and increasing positive perceptions of Wikimedia among professionals working in the area of LGBTI+, sexual and psychological health
  2. Increasing skills for editing/contributing of participants of the training, professionals and LGBTI+ community members

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. Are you doing one editathon or training or a series of editathons or trainings?

We are planning 2 training workshops (one public and one private for HIV+ people) followed by 2 follow-up editathons. The focus is bridging the gap on LGBTI+ and health related content in Croatian language. Most content is out of date by a decade and/or not included at all.
The training workshops will be organised as part of an annual N00La conference, which focuses on HIV and related issues. The participants are medical professionals, psychologists, other experts in the field and also members of the LGBTI+ community who are most affected by HIV in Croatia. Last year’s conference had over 200 participants. During the workshop we will highlight the content gaps and motivate participants to join editathons.

2. How have you let relevant Wikimedia communities know about this proposal? You are required to provide links to on-wiki pages to inform these communities about your proposed work. Examples of places where this can be done include community discussion pages, affiliate discussion pages, or relevant project talk pages.
You may also provide information about external social media channels you may be using.

When the conference program is finalised it will be shared on the conference's website: noola.iskorak.hr, mailing lists, on-wiki spaces (Village pump HR, SH Wikipedia) social media channels (including organisations's and partner's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter profiles) and Pozitivan Forum (online community of people living with HIV)

3. How will you let participants know about the edit-a-thon? In what ways will you be communicating with them?
For example, these can include on-wiki spaces, social media channels, mailing lists, messaging apps, or physical/online gatherings.

The main training events will be a part of a conference program which is promoted among experts in the field using mailing-lists (e.g. list of previous conference participants, national AIDS mailing list) and LGBTI+ community through social media. The conference is also accredited for continual education by the professional association of doctors / medical nurses / psychologists, which motivates participation and it is shared through their channels.


4. Do you have experienced Wikimedia editors to lead the event? Please provide links to the usernames of these individuals.

Yes, the research on content gaps and events will be organised by feminist-queer-antiraceist group HrW initiative as a form of Wikimedian-in-Residency work within LGBTI+ organisation Iskorak. In the group there are experienced editors (User:Zblace, User:Lor_H, User:Mila_Gojsalić) that have background in themes of LGBTI+, HIV and psychology. Among the editors is a psychologist who has a lot of experience in LGBT issues and human rights activism in general which will help in leading the event.


5. Do participants have the equipment or skills needed to participate and contribute high quality content? If not, how will you support them?

Due to the pandemic we host events online.
Each participant would use their own devices and internet connection.
We would support those in need with internet coupons and offer refreshment compensation.
We have a leading authority in HIV in Croatia, Dr. prof. Josip Begovac, committed to help with content.

6. How will you engage participants after the event(s)?

After the training the participants will be invited to ediathons. We plan to provide meals and reward 3 best participants as decided by the vote by all of the participants. We believe this will motivate participants to join the ediathons and to actively participate. The regular follow-up editathons after the training will be designed to engage participants and form a habit of editing. The participants will also be invited to join relevant mailing lists and groups to maintain their engagement via HrW_initiative locally or other ways internationally informed by Lane Rasberry and Owen Blacker of WikiProjectMedicine and LGBT+ Wikimedia User Group.

7. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

There won't be in-person events.

8. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The events will be organised by Iskorak, LGBTI+ organisation with focus on health for the last 20 years with expert collaboration with WiRs from HrW_initiative.


Impact edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets:

  2. Number of participants: 200
  3. Number of new editors: 15-30
  4. Number of of articles created or improved: 30-100
  5. Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events): 15

The project is organised by LGBTI+ organisation Iskorak. We have covered costs for the conference, which include coordination of workshops and editathons, cost of online platform, graphical design and promotion of the events.

The activities proposed in this project are conventional and proven to produce useful content in underserved subject areas for the benefit of underrepresented demographics and with high community support.   • I endorse this proposal which is crucial to produce content related to LGBTIQ issue in an encyclopedic way. Willing also to serve as an external advisor as I am familiar to these topics on the francophone wikipedia.
