Project Plan edit

Activities edit

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

Wiki Loves Monuments Latvia 2016

1. What content will the contest focus on, and why is it important to your community?

The contest will focus on pictures of cultural heritage in Latvia. We have made available a list of cultural monuments online based on official monument lists by state agency. The list contains over 7000 different monuments.
2. How will you let people know about the contest? The most important way to advertise the contest will be site notice banner arranged by the international team. We will communicate through our social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook) which have limited reach. We will post announcements in local photo and tourism related forums and sites.

We will also write a post to be shared (targeted to Latvia and Latvian language users) on official Wikimedia Facebook account.
3. How will you judge the contest and award prizes?

The jury will consist of 4-5 people from mixed backgrounds and will judge photos in several rounds, using proven jury tools provided by Wikimedia community and used also in other countries. We will try to include photography and heritage expert, as well as a wikimedian.
4. For photo contests, what is the strategy to get images used on projects?

The lists of monuments contain links to already existing articles on the topic. The community will be encouraged to create articles about the missing topics. Social media will be used to promote quality images without an article on the topic.
5. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

The project will go on even if not funded. We have already prepared all information pages for the contest and posted first announcements.

Time plan for activities:

  1. Before September: Preparing announcement texts, promoting contest through social media, sending announcements to some media.
  2. September: Running the competition, posting updates to social media, pre-selection for the jury. Publicly announced photo expedition to less covered region.
  3. October: Jury work, deciding local winners. 10 best photos will be submitted to the international contest.
  4. Start of November: Printing best photos. Awards ceremony for local winners. Follow-up announcements in media which posted our press releases.
  5. November: Evaluating the project and compiling the report. Showcasing best work in social media and printed copies offline.
Microgrants pilot project

This project is submitted together with WLM project to simplify banking and administration.

A microgrants system will be set up with initial funds. Users will be able to request funds for covering travel expenses, entry tickets to museums or events, necessary books or online database access. Interested people will have to present action plan, the community will accept or reject it by voting and commenting. Proposed projects should present clear goals like articles created or objects photographed. Money will be paid only after set goal is reached. Reporting will be done in Latvian Wikipedia project pages.

Funds are planned for a 6 month period. At the end of this period there will be a summary compiled for reporting.

Papuass and Voll participated actively in the organisation of this year's CEE Spring and Papuass organised this year's Europeana Art History Challenge in Latvia. They have the experience to make the project successful with the limited funds they are requesting. I believe that they will beat the goals they've set. --Lord Bumbury (talk) 10:48, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
