Goals

edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

  • We were able to fairly meet our goals for this project. Although we expected to do a lot more than this.

Outcome

edit

The grant helped us to organize events and meetup even when we decided to organize events impromptu. We were able to expand our events outside Patiala as well and we did events in New Delhi and Chandigarh as well. We collaborated with other organizations such as Feminism in India, Swedish Embassy in India and Whose Knowledge.

Using the camera bought with the help of Grants:PEG/Satdeep Gill/Punjabi Wikimedians Infrastructure Support, we were able to continue our work on documenting nearby places and people. We created some audio-visual content as well and we were able to provide travel and food reimbursements to our volunteers who contributed towards this.

During this period, we were able to groom our female organizers. Events organized by females include:

  1. Sexual Assault Awareness Month Edit-a-thon
  2. Wiki Loves Pride 2017, Chandigarh
  3. Wikidata Workshop Chandigarh 2017
  4. Gandhi Jayanti Edit-a-thon 2017

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation

We also saw got some new participants during our events in New Delhi and Chandigarh. But most of these participants were just one-time participants and the community stands at about 20 members who are actively participating either online, offline or both.
300 - Number of photos uploaded to Wikimedia Commons ~300 Images + ~6 Videos Besides this we got 21 Quality Images and 1 Featured Picture as well.

Learning

edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
The flexibility to organize events at short notice was really helpful.
As getting funding was already taken care of, female leaders became confident of organizing events in their cities.
  • What did not work so well?
Since, it was our first long term grant, we could not anticipate that some paper bills can fade over time. We should have scanned them at the earliest. Although, it did not cause a lot of trouble, but we would still advice other communities to scan and keep copies of the original bills as soon as they receive them.
  • What would you do differently next time?
We could have alloted more funds in the miscellanous section to be better prepared to organize events like the Wikidata Workshop Chandigarh 2017 (9-10 September 2017)
Target outcome should have been more aligned to the overall project.
