Activities

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. What is your promotion plan?
You can produce an animation video to promote a Wikimedia project and promote it by using ads on Twitter. You can promote an online campaign, such as Wiki Loves Monuments, by producing an interview video and promoting it on Facebook, Twitter, etc., using ads.

To create a documentary film relating the history of Catalan Wikipedia and its sister projects for the 20th anniversary celebrations. We need to buy archive footage (and eventually, achieve that it is released under a free license) as well as record new footage.
The film will be freely released, so it can work as a promotion campaign of Wikipedia
Also, footage can be reused for online campaigns
We will provide subtitles, to have a broader audience than Catalan speakers only.

2. How will you let your community know about the promotion campaign?
Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

The most active users will be personally contacted to appear in the film. There will be announcements in the Village Pump, once released we will interact with Amical’s social networks and we will partner with local media to promote it ever further.

3.Do you have any experience in online promotion or video production?
Were you involved in a similar project in the past? Do you have any other experience in producing videos or multimedia files?

I've worked for the Valencian Public Broadcasting Company in the very first days when it started airing.
We will be partnering with TresDeu Media, with experience in the creation of audiovisual content, including two TV series and one short promotion video for a Museum in the last years.

4. Do you or others in your team have the skills needed to manage the video production and promotional campaign?
Do you already have a team and specific roles assigned to people based on tasks such as scriptwriting, direction, cinematography, etc.?

Yes, We have a team. If additional funding is achieved locally, the team could even grow.

5. What’s your post promotion plan?
What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

Original plan is to air the documentary in the Public TV stations of the Catalan Speaking territories. Online release is assured, by own means but also by Tresdeu platforms, which includes a website and own social media accounts.

6. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

No, although the team might visit some in-person activities held by Amical.

7. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This is an independent project not backed by Amical Wikimedia nor any affiliate. Our goal is to produce a documentary film that tells, from an independent point of view, the history of the Wikimedia projects in Catalan language, to be release for the 20th anniversary. At this date and with that release date in mind, we can't apply for a project grant, so the documentary must be financed by different channels. With the budget we have, the ammount provided by the grant would go almost entirely to pay the rights of archive footage from the Catalan television, which we plan to release under a free license if properly negotiated.

Impact

edit

How will you know if the project is successful and you've met your goals? Please include the following targets and feel free to add more

  1. Number of video views (saw the video) 5.000 through different channels, 20.000-100.000 if aired on TV.

Our goal is to promote Catalan Wikimedia projects, its readership and gaining new users. It is difficult to know if a new user or reader is gained by watching a film, but we can set an intended number of viewers.

  1.   Oppose I am deeply sorry to reject this petition from a colleague. This documentary budget is intented to explain the 20 years of Catalan Wikipedia and there has not been ANY approach towards our community. The company, the budget, the archives... everything has been chosen unilaterally without taking into account the Wikipedians: nor content, nor plot, nor speakers, nor if it is worth to pay for private archives or even if the people that talk for those archives is willing to appear in this documentary. In conclusion, this person and a company coming out from nowhere are leading a project that should represent 20 years of our language movement without any prior consensus. This does not make any absolute sense to me. Besides, as a former Treasurer from Amical Wikimedia, our affiliate has savings enough to afford the economical support for the documentary and other celebration events or volunteer expenses, but there has not been any further, serious internal debate about how to proceed to support the decisions of the onwiki community. Only a list message from a staff member from the external company to say that the process is "already going on". I find it a huge scandal that just undermines the historial prestige of the Catalan procedures and actions. —Xavier Dengra
  2.   Comment Just to make it clear: the existence of the project has made public through mail list and social media channels with an important presence of editors of the wikimedia projects in that language. Every step has been anounced in real time, for transparency purposes, and the existence of this project has been known for more than one month. The very same Xavier had given me his feedback by messaging and in the internal Amical Wikimedia mailist and I gave him (and everyone) the reasons why it was better to have an independent documentary instead that one funded by Amical.TaronjaSatsuma (talk) 18:11, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
  3.   Oppose I don't believe that is the best way to promote Viquipèdia. The place to discuss these topics is "La Taverna", so it would be better to talk there first. Moreover, choosing the producer unilaterally seems to me a huge lack of transparency and respect. —Willy31igd
  4.   Strong support I think there is no doubt that the Catalan Wikipedia deserves this kind of coverage for the 20th anniversary. Francesc is a reliable person to lead this project. I would simply invite anyone to post their interests, requests and ideas about the documentary in the talk page. marcmiquel (talk) 22:36, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
  5.   Oppose I have to withdraw my own proposal because it makes no sense that I demand money to the movement when I can't fully garantee that I have the support of my own community.TaronjaSatsuma (talk) 07:42, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
