Local
- Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.
- R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.
- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
This project aims to bridge the content gap on African's quotes by creating new entries on Wikiquote and improvement of existing ones. Wikiquote seems to have very few quotes about African popular people. Africans have a long record of writers, poets, leaders and so on whose popular intellectual works and phrases are not on wikiquote and they meet up with the wikiquote's page criteria. There is a substantial lack of content on popular Africans Leaders, Writers, Authors, Poets, etc. that deserves a stand-alone article on Wikiquote. Effort will be geared towards creating entries that bridge women gap on Wikipedia and the Wikiquote most especially.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
We plan to accomplish this using the following approaches:
Organizing physical meetup.
Creating new entries and improving existing contents on African Poets, Leaders, Politicians, Writers, Influencers, Authors, among others.
Training and recruiting new editors for the Wikimedia Community. At the end, the project will contribute, support and bridge the underrepresented articles on African related contents.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
Based on the above approaches, here are the following activities to be undertaken: Survey: A survey of popular Africans in different professional fields who profile are absent or in need of reinforcement will be identified and publicized. Trainings: All participants will be trained on how to contribute to Wikiquote and guides will be provided to participants. Edit-a-thons: This will encourage collaborative research and knowledge exchange and also aid participants in understanding what they were taught during the training session. A list has been compiled by the team which would assist participants in knowing what to work on.
- 4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.
