1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

The Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos (WPWP) is an annual campaign where Wikipedians across Wikipedia language projects and communities add photos to Wikipedia articles lacking of images. This is to promote the use of digital media files collected from various Wikimedia photography contests, photowalks organized by the Wikimedia community, on Wikipedia article pages. Photos help to grasp the reader's attention better than a wall of text, illustrate content, and make the article more instructive and engaging for readers. Thousands of images have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons via various advocacy programs, photowalks, and contests including international photography contests such as Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore etc. Yet relatively few of these photos have been used on Wikipedia articles. Today, the Wikimedia Commons hosts millions of photo images but only a tiny portion of these have been used on Wikipedia article pages. This is a huge gap that this project aims at bridging.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

This contest would focus on the use of free media files on Wikipedia articles. Thousands of images have been donated and contributed to Wikimedia Commons via various advocacy programs, photowalks, and contests including international photography contests such as Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth, Wiki Loves Folklore, etc. We are sure that we will reach our objectives because we are running sessions to help participants to contribute more easily.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We are doing 4 Offline contest presentation and 1 award ceremony. The 4 Offline contest presentation will concern practical support and follow-up for participants as part of the contest (July - August); Special coaching sessions for novice members.

Details: We are going to conduct a series of Five in person sessions. The first will focus on general instructions on Wikicommons and infoboxes and how to participate in WPWP, the second and third sessions will answer any concerns about eventual challenges which might face the participants, The fourth will be the moment to check with all participants if everything is okay. After that, we are going to have the last session to conclude the contest. During this last one, participants are going to take they prizes and we will also have a discussion with them about what work well and what don't in order to improve the next contest.

This 2022 WPWP is different from the others on 2 points : First of all, We are going to have in person sessions. This didn't not happen since all the world is confronted to COVID-19. It will help us to be in touch with participants and help them directly if needed. Secondly, this Contest have the particularity that all the participants should be on Wikimedia projects at least one year before. This is good because it will allows us to be in touch not with new users but old ones. It will be a moment to share about our experiences and hear from them. By this way, we can improve the organization of coming events by taking into account the what old participants on Wikimedia projects tells us.
